From RaceCoolers:
Rev it up! RaceCoolers™ to debut April 5
Introducing the one and only beverage cooler made from genuine used NASCAR™ racing tires.

Available this April, the next collectible phenomenon for insatiable NASCAR fans will roll onto the racing scene. RaceCoolers™, giant beverage coolers made from official used NASCAR™ tires, will begin manufacturing in February, according to Robert McConkey, President of The RaceCooler™ Company. Each insulated cooler is designed to hold 78 long neck bottles or 144 cans together with 40 pounds of ice. The only product authorized to be manufactured from actual tires used on the NASCAR™ circuit, these one-of-a-kind beverage coolers are sure to become a highly sought-after item in every NASCAR™ fan’s tailgating and collectable repertoire.

RaceCoolers™ are manufactured by inserting an injection-molded liner inside an actual used tire from NASCAR™ Nextel Cup, Craftsman Truck and Busch series races. Add to that an aluminum-rimmed base, drain-plug and two heavy-duty, rubber padded metal handles and you have a beverage cooler that is both highly functional and totally individual in nature. “The result is a totally unique item since each tire shows its own individual wear patterns and pit crew markings,” explains inventor, Kevin Bruns. “No two RaceCoolers™ are alike.”

Many of the tires still have the original grease pencil markings from where the pit crew identified the proper tire position, the pit stop on which it was changed or any other information important to the crew. Some tires even show the actual car number on which it was used.

Mr. Bruns takes the authenticity of his product very seriously. To prevent other manufacturers from creating knock-offs, each RaceCooler™ comes with a certificate of authenticity listing the tire, its general condition and the exact markings that were present when it arrived at the plant. “This acts as a safeguard against false modifications to tire markings once they leave the plant,” explains Bruns. After two years of development, The RaceCooler™ Company holds the exclusive product design and use patents on the product.

In keeping with the spirit of U.S. Stock Car Racing, each RaceCooler™ will be assembled entirely in the United States. Goodwill Industries will be responsible for the production line and shipments.

RaceCoolers™ are doing their part for the environment, too. For every tire converted into a RaceCooler™, the environment is spared 26 pounds of shredded rubber in a landfill. That’s over 2 million pounds of non-biodegradable rubber and metal kept out of the scrap heaps of America over the course of a year. This is because manufacturers would otherwise require that the tires be destroyed after each race in order to prevent misuse by individuals wishing to use them on their own cars.

Because only official race tires that have been run in one of the three circuits are used to create RaceCoolers™, the total quantity available will depend entirely on the number of tires generated during the races in each season. According to Richard Whitescarver, V.P. of sales for RaceCooler™, current estimates for a year’s supply are less than 80,000. The initial product run will only be available on www.racecoolers.com for $299.00 plus shipping and handling. Once all of the official race tires have been converted to RaceCoolers™, production will cease for the remainder of the year.

Some Interesting Stock Car Factoids:
The average time required to change all four tires during a pit stop is 12 to 15 seconds.
Each tire must be capable of running an average speed of 110 – 200 mph.
Each tire costs over $600 when new.
A tire will only be used for 55 to 70 miles on average.
Tires for all three series races (Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck) are identical in design and specifications.
Tires pressure is adjusted to ¼ lb. increments depending on track conditions, air temperature, etc.
During the course of a race, the rubber on the tires actually melts at times. Small pieces of track debris can be seen afterward embedded in its surface.
All race tires are gathered and inspected after each race. Unless they are converted into RaceCoolers™, they are immediately shredded and disposed of.
Each RaceCooler™ weighs 32 pounds without bottles and ice.

LOL....used tires for $300 a pop...no doubt some sales appeal to the rabid redneck mullet crowd but I'll keep using my good old coleman cooler.Might not be as cool (or as heavy) as a used tire cooler but it will probably see more use :D
