View Full Version : Time to move on?

I have had my XTM Mammoth for about 3 years now, and it seems that it breaks every time I drive it. And no, I am not doing crazy house jumps or backflips, just normal driving around the street with small jumps. I went to the skatepark today and did some 8 foot jumps, but than after those, the pullstarter breaks. Third time and i'm getting mad. Do you think I should move on and if so what should I get?

PS I like good handling, but still want good suspension. I also love to bash, but don't want the problems of breaking down every outing.

Take a look at the MGT or Savage. They are dang tough and are pretty fast. MGT has better handling i think.

I only have $400 to spend by the way.

How about the Losi Aftershock?

The article in the recent rc car action magazine on the home page said that it only goes 33 mph. That isn't that fast compared to others. MGT is a little bit under 400 so you still have enough to get other stuff like fuel and glow plug igniter.

I already have everything from my Xtm Mammoth:
Glow Starter
Fuel
Fuel Bottle
etc.

Brody, if everything is brakeing. Yes get something new. I dont think You are gunna get alot of nitro truck from 400 dollars. I would Fix the Mammoth, and clean it up realy nicly, looking like new, and post it up p ebay, give urself a little more money to spend on a Truck. Hmm.. good trucks.. goods trucks.. Tamiay TNX is a truck that hassent been sugested yet that is Good. The new I belive 5.2 motor is sopose to be a raiot. Dont qoute me on the motor size, I dont realy remember

brody I know I'm wasting my breath but this is the problem and you will most likely have the same problem with any offroad vehicle. They are not meant for concrete and asphalt.

i have to agree there. 80% of the parts i've broken were because of on road driving (hitting curbs, landing wrong on concrete, etc).

On the road all I did was speed runs up and down the street, and at the skatepark I was doing the jumps into a grass area outside the cement. For the Mammoth I have a roll cage too, which helps a lot.

I just need a basher.

Get a Savage then. They are the toughest out there. I don't know of any that are tougher. MGT is about the same too.

What exactly is breaking on the Mammoth? I see the mention to the problem pull starter, and you can always get a roto-start backplate for the engine to remove this problem.

Schumacher Havoc all the way!
I dunno how much they cost out there in the states, but they are worth every penny!
Just google it, and you will see why!

I got one for christmas, and its freakin amazing...especially with a top speed over 50mph!!!

Just remember Schumacher Havoc is RWD only. It's like a big Stadium truck.

...but its made as a stunt/bashers truck, and is almost indestructible!
With incredible suspension too!
Consider it an option...

Here is what i've broken:
(3)Pull Starter
(1)Top front right a-arm
(1)Bottom front right a-arm
(1)Stripped 65t gear
(1)Bent Shocktower before the Roll Cage
And a couple lost screws

Everything except the pull starter has been replaced.

Right now I am liking the MGT 4.60, T-Maxx 3.3, Revo 3.3, and Savage X
(also might be interested in a bash worthy buggy or stadium truck if there are any)

That's really not bad in 3 years.....

I'd get a roto-start plate for the SH .28 (assuming this is the engine) and keep bashing!

I think you already asked this question and I think most everyone in the thread suggested to sell it

savage100
01-26-2007, 06:18 PM
If you have only broke that in 3 years than that is normal. That is probably better than normal. Revo isn't a good basher it is a racer and neither is t-maxx. At least not the old ones.

Don't get any Traxxas is you want something tough. I had a revo 2.5r and t-maxx 3.3 both were just not tough enough, I was racing and bashing, I wasn't doing shed show or anything that kind. I jump maybe 2 - 3 foot in the air, landing on end jump ( slop i think ) just invest in a savage MT or truggy (lightning stadium, hellfire ss, x1-crt, mantis, matrix tr arena)

I took about a year off of rc while I did travel baseball. I stopped doing that and have moved back into rc. Before the baseball I was a very careful of how to drive it and made sure I wasn't doing anything stupid. Now I have got board of the careful driving and am willing to do jumps, and bash around more. It seems like everything upgraded is pricy, and the cheaper RPM stuff doesn't make anything for XTM. I'm lost and don't know what to get, either a buggy, monster truck, or a truggy.

Cheap, fast, tough = Ofna Ultra Comp II

How good of a basher is the Ultra Comp II?

I don't think a buggy would be a very good choice as a basher. The big tires of an MT go a long way toward absorbing abuse.

Maybe Truggy then ? Or how about the new Losi Muggy?

Yah, but it's $550
Maybe if my dad helped me out a little , or if I sell my Mammoth and use money from that.

I really like the Muggy, sounds like an awesome truck.

Quinton, I couldn't download those videos, I will try You Tube.
I found it and they do look tough, but none of my LHS carry Ofna. Unless Hobby People or Gyro Hobbies carries them and I didn't know.

Quinton

You don't need to DL them, just go to putfile to watch them.

You could get the buggy from ebay or tower (I can't believe your LHS doesn't carry OFNA)

brody

On putfile it said click here to download plugin, but it wouldn't download so I just went to You Tube.

Hold On,
I found a shop near me called Nitro House. Here is the link and tell me what you think:

What do you mean different companies Quinton?

Savage 100 said it only went 33mph. If I got somethinh in that price range, it would be a Savage or MGT.

Now i'm thinking of selling my Mammoth(maybe), and buying a RC18t(drove my friends Mini-T and am hooked on the minis) and a RC10 GT2.

I find it hard to believe that a 2 speed trans monster truck (especially a Losi) with a .26 engine only hit 33mph.

OFNA Mutilator. When you get into the bigger trucks, you lose reverse but gain durability in the driveline. I really would look at keeping the truck you have, take the time to clean it well, replace any broken parts, change out to a roto-start and then keep driving it. If you really feel like spending money, go out and buy something new, but from what I am hearing, three years of broken parts only making a small list is nothing to complain about. Everything breaks at some point; it doesn't hurt as much when it breaks if you didn't just pay for it.

They do make alot of hop-ups for that truck....maybe upgrade to steel spurs?
