Hey Guys i was wondering on how hard it would be to build your own matched battery packs. Is it really as hard as everyone says ??? And would a self built battery pack (asuming you did it right) be better than a store bought one ?????

Doing a good job assembling a battery pack is one of the hardest things you can do in this hobby. And I have been into RC car racing for a long time. Nothing lessens the quality of a good battery pack like a lousy soldering job.

Look at factory assembled stick packs vs. factory assembled saddle/side x side packs - the saddle pack ALL outperform the stick packs. Why? Stick packs are spot welded, not nearly as good a connection as soldering.

In order to assemble a pack yourself, you gotta have the RIGHT tools - a good soldering gun, the right solder, copper bars, 12g wire and a good jig. Even then it takes patience and some skill to do it right.

My advice - unless you have the right tools, and are comfortable and competent at soldering, buy a factory assembled pack. The saddle and side x side packs are all done professionally and are quite nice, and really aren't that much more expensive than buying the individual cells and trying to do it yourself.
