I prefer P2K, it runs a lot cooler and has extreme torque.
According to the manual Associated recommends 21T pinion and 87 spur gear, but for P2K I would like to gear it up to 22T.
For maintenance read this web page: http://rcvehicles.about.com/hobbies/rcvehicles/library/mph/blmotor.htm

I have them both. I get more speed out of the MVP.

like it very much because it lacked torque. The P2k is a better all around motor

If you race ON ROAD, and the track(s) you run at are typical layouts (a few tight turns and a long straight), no question the MVP is the motor you want. It flat out smokes the competetion. I can keep up with or pass nitros on the straights.

If you race OFF ROAD, or if your track has tons of tight turns and very little straights, the P2K would be better. It has more torque to power thru the bumps and curves.

I run the MVP offroad and it works great for me, but I have tuned it by narrowing brushes, etc. P2K is easier to gear right and use overall, but I think the MVP offers more in the right hands.

I have run both, but found that the P2K stands up to heat better. It seemed the performance of the MVP decreased faster than the P2K, which meant that I had to cut the comm more often. Honestly, I think the MVP had a slight edge, but only for about 3 to 4 heats, then I put my P2k back on, because the MVP lost it's punch.

Do what all we fanatics do: Bring your lathe to the track. :)

Yup, for me, 4 runs is about all I put on a motor per race day, so it doesn't lose much before it's time to give it a rebuild..... :)

go with the MVP, you cant go wrong with the A-Team! :D

can't bring lathe to the track =(. It is a REAL lathe, full size, lol. big enough to make table legs, etc... But it has never failed on a comm cut yet, I have done about 16 so far.

i was very impressed initially with my first MVP... but after about 3 runs, it really overheated and slowed down (even with conservative gearing, and no amout of comm truing or brush changing has fixed)... the second MVP i got was a Dillon Racing MVP stock motor... it was horrible out of the box... and it ran about 20 degrees hotter than the core of the sun.... not good...

at this point, my fav stock motor is a Fantom Epic Based Team Stocker.... they pull insane numbers on the dyno, and just kick butt on the track..

peace out.... :)

The MVP does run hotter than others, but this is because it has a much higher RPM than others.

Most racers don't change their gearing when the put on an MVP. My advice is to reduce gearing by at least 2 teeth. You will still be faster than most on the straights, and you will also get faster acceleration.

The motor will still run hot, but this will not hurt anything. Just be careful to not touch it for a few minutes after a race.

Everybody has their opinion, but nobody asked what you are going to be racing and where. If you're running off-road with lots of jumps, tight turns, short-chutes, etc go with the P2K for the torque and the flexibility. If you're running on-road or big dirt oval, the MVP can be made to run faster than a P2K, but you have to keep the rpm's up as the lack of torque doesn't spool-up as quick. MVP seems to need more frequent attention tnat P2K also.

If you're starting in stock racing off-road go with the P2K. If you're running oval (on road or big dirt) try the MVP or the GM3 for higher rpm. There are plenty of good sites on motor set-up on the net. Look around and don't believe everything you read.

to the guy that said the 36 degree RP outlaw was faster than an MVP or Fantom.... it may very well be faster... but nobody let's you run them..... LMAO... that's why they are called "outlaw" stockers...

and if you run 36 degrees on your stocker, why not just run the mod class, which is WAYYYY faster than the RP would ever be...

peace out... :)

i heard that you can run 2 teeth higher using a p2k, because it has the power, so the p2k works great for on-road also

well i would go with the P2K. the MVP has the is little problem where the comm WONT TURN. so go with the P2K pro.

Howiestern...i do run mod as well as stock!!And the outlaw stock is 27 turns not what you said! The guy is lookin' for a fast stocker and that is my view on the subject!!I think he should go with the p2k or whatever its called but i'm a longtime race prep user and i had to put my 2 cents in!!Its all in fun right?Don't ever get mad over something someone says on this bb!!Afterall,to each his own right? :D ;)

ummmmmmmm... earth calling kart...... earth calling kart....

the RP outlaw is 27 turns... (DUH)... but it uses 36 degrees of advanced timing as opposed to 24 degrees of advanced timing like the "legal" stock motors use...

there is not one track in my 3 state area where that motor is legal... what's the point of telling someone to buy it if you can't USE it??

peace out.... :)

i race only off-road... and only electrics (have since 93').... 1/10th buggy and truck....

i got into nitro a bit last season... and well... i just didn't have the time to keep a nitro going as well as my electrics.... LOL.... so the nitro hit ebay.... LOL....

i have never driven an on-road car ever... but might try to dabble in it a bit this winter.....

i am also a track director at an off road and dirt oval track in northern missouri... it is quite challenging sometimes to put up with all different sorts of people....

here's a weird story for ya from a couple weekends ago about dealing with people.....

we got a couple new racers that had roadtripped in from a couple hours away... they didn't have any tracks closer to them, and they were just now getting back into racing after several years off.... it was a father/son team....

the son ended up having this horrible attitude all day at the track.. his truck wasn't running very well.... and he was quite rusty with his driving... i was also racing his class... and by the end of the heats, this kid was really getting on my nerves with his foul language and bad attitude....

during the main, his truck just rolled to a stop right in front of a marshal... at our track, (or any track for that matter) the marshal is not really responsible for fixing broken cars... they are only responsible for marshalling cars...

anyways.. this kid just goes OFF on the marshall... yelling at him to work on his car... there was a bit of foul and abusing language coming off the stand headed right to that marshal.... then the kid just quits and stomps down and got his truck.... cursing all the way back to his work bench....

did i mention that we have a preacher that goes to our track?? and he helps marshal sometimes??

yup... the marshal this kid was flipping out on was the local preacher of the town... (but the kid didn't know who the marshal was at this point)

as soon as the race got over... i got off the stand and went straight over to the boy and his father... i said.. "do you know who you were just cursing at??"... the kid replied "i don't know, and i don't care... that F'er should have at least tried to fix my truck"...

so i reply.. "well that's the preacher of this town, and if i ever hear one more vulgar word come out of your mouth, you are permantly banned from here"....

the kid replied... "i don't F'n care"...

so the kid got the boot....

BUT....

he shows up the very next weekend asking if he can race again.... as if nothing had even happened the weekend before...

dealing with people.... it's what life is all about... (and it ain't easy... LOL)

peace out.... :)

For big tracks, I use a Green Machine 3 and for short tracks, I use a P2K. Never tried a MVP.
