a novak c2(139.00 at towers )and a reedy Ti would be ideal for what your looking for (79.00 at towers also)

warhawk, a good set of sealed bearings really should be your first step, you'll get a slight increase in seed and it really lays the platform for other upgrades, such as machine wound modified motor. Anything else is putting the car before the horse. You should also get some other pinions and spurs and play with gearing to get more speed.

warhawk buy a p2k or mvp they will give you plenty of speed and your speed control can handel them so you can save for a new one when you get your mod

If you can afford $9.00 more, then the set up could be:

1. Duratrax bearings for T3 $27.99
2. Novak's fusion dual $69.99
3. Speed Gems 2 13T motor $27.99
4. Pinion gear (Robinson racing) $2.99
Total $128.96

OR
1. Duratrax bearings $27.99
2. Associated IPC sport $49.99
3. Speed Gems 2 15T $27.99
4. PInion gear $2.99
5. Deans ultra plugs * 2 $6.18
Total $115.14

Good lucy with your wise decisions.

If you get the first combo as I described I think it should look fine.

I agree with the first combo as well, the Fusion is a pretty good ESC (I have one that I keep for a backup in case I nuke a C2 or something :) ). I really think you would better off with a good stock motor though because when you get into racing you will be running stock classes first, plus it saves you a few bucks on the front end and you keep decent runtimes (1500s aren't going to get much runtime on a 13 turn)

If you want to save some money, what's the motor limit of your ESC? Buy that wind of machine-wound motor (I recommend Monsters of Touring - cheap).

get bearings first, no doubtski aboutski. the fusion is an excellent esc. I would say the p2k or mvp for starters. Speed gems are garbage. I have four and they run great for a few runs, but quickly degrade and need to be cut to regain performance. I have the 11T, 12T, 15T, and 19T, and the only one that lasted for a decent time is the 19T. Supposedly the peak 'stratos' series will stomp a speed gems, but i don't know how long they will perform before a rebuild is needed. The stock motors mentioned in previous posts run very well for quite a lot of runs before a rebuild is absolutely necessary. Stormer racing hobbies has a little bit better price on some of these motors(Reedy Ti for $54 vs tower for $79??? and Orion's for $50, Peak auroura's for $49).Also check out www.speedtechrc.com (http://www.speedtechrc.com) for good stuff and good prices. i saw this site posted previously and checked it out and found good deals there as well on both machine wound and hand wound modifieds. There really is a big difference in performance and durability between machine wound mods(~$28) vs hand wound mods(~$50)
