I like my Cobra Lathe, I also hear good things about the Hudy and Reedy lathes. RCCA did a lathe article not too long ago...

I have the Pro Comm Lathe 2000; it came with a diamond bit for about $160.

I want to buy that one also, but I don't know is that one for modified or rebuildable stock motor, because I want to get one which is capable for mod and rebuilt.
Thank you very much for your reply.

cck, Mod & rebuildable stockers use the same lathe. The stock lathes were setup for turning coms while they were still in the can, as it was illegal to take apart. This made it very difficult to do a decent job on these motors. So most people took them apart anyway to cut the com. This is probably the main reason for the rebuildable stockers of today. We are the third owners of a Cobra lathe that still work perfect for us( 50 to 100 cuts by us alone). I don't like the ball bearing ways on some of the new lathes as I feel it just introduces another element of runout, & wear & tear. Ball bearings are good to reduce friction, but the enemy here is runout, so why use them? I'm sure thre are many good lathes out there, but I don't think you could go wrong with the Cobra's as they go back to the old slot car days, are proven performers, & very reasonable. Just my $.02. Good luck.
