I'm mostly into scale modeling. I was thinking that building an RC car would be even more realistic because it actually moves.
My question:
Are there any on-road electric cars out there that put emphasis on realism as opposed to performance; for example, As long as it moves, I'll be happy, but I'd never race it.
I want to be able to do things like have a real metal grill and rims, and perhaps doors that open or something like that.
Chances are this doesn't exist, but heck, I thought I'd ask.
Thanks!

Of course they exist, if youve got the willpower and the resources, you can do it! :p

WOW! QUICK RESPONSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LIKE this forum.
Ok, so what brands should I be looking at? Or does it even matter? Like, am I going to have to forge my own grill bars out of paper clips or something?

Actually, for scale detail(especially in including things like mirrors & winshield wipers), I'd say Tamiya & Kyosho are the companies to look at. I think they put more detail into their kits than anyone. HPI does pretty good on theirs, but they're still more race-oriented.... :)

Yeah, go with at leat a Tamiya body, if not a whole kit. They sell mirrors and stuff. If you try this, you could get something like the SVT Lightning kit, and add a lot of spacer to the shocks to lift the ride height. Also, cut the bottom of the body, so it looks more realistic, like a car you see on the street.

I am in the very long process of building a Bolink Hemi Coupe. It is pretty much what you thought of, as in it is a combo of a detailed scale model and a r/c.
It has a very detailed hemi engine which is taking most of the time to build and detail. The chassis is basic Bolink and it will be powered with a stock motor and a fwd/rev esc.
It has the potential to be customized like you said, but would be lmited in the interior detailing due to the necessary r/c mecahnincals inside. However things like grille; headlights; wheels etc are all possible.
Another thing is to buy a plastic scale model and adapt the body to your r/c chassis.
