Anyone have any experience with these things.. the Ray-o-vac ones? I need to replace my Nicads in my radio and since they are in a holder and not a shrink-wrapped pack, I can put anything in there I want to. Anyone use these things and does the plug-in wall charger work for them?

I use them in the M8.

They perform terrific. Full charged pack is over 12.5volts. Great signal with high voltage.

Thanks SirSpeedy.. but how do you charge them? Did you buck for the Rayovac charger as well?

They also make a kit for about 20-30 $'s. It comes with 8 sanyo's and a charger. What kind of a rmote do you have?? There should be somekind off a jack. It's a circle with one pin sticking out in the middle of the circular jack. Its pretty cool because all's you have to do is leave the batterys in the remote and plug in the cord from the wall to the radio.VOILA

The Rayovac Renewals are alkaline batteries. Not Nicad ot Nimh. They are rated at 1.5 volts per cell, where Nicad and Nimh are rated at 1.2 volts. Therefore a pack of 8 RR's =12volts, and the others are 9.6volts.....voltage helps with signal clarity

See ya...

SirSpeedy's right, I've been using the Rayovaks for 1 1/2 -2 years, & I'e been very happy with them. I know it's not cheap, but Rayovak makes a nice charger that'll handle 8 AAs or AAAs, or 4 C or D cells, & it also can charge NiCds & NiMhs. Very handy gadget..... http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've been using rechargeable alkalines (Grandcell) for a while now and they're good in that they're 1.5 volts not 1.2. They don't last as long as NiCd's or NiMh (lifetime that is, not charge time), but they're not as expensive either.
One thing though, you must use a charger specific to them (alkalines) as they have different characteristics that NiCd or NiMh (voltage being one). The pack that I bought had 4 batteries and a charger, and I also bought another pack of 4 cells. The instuctions on the pack were specific about not using NiCd or NiMh chargers... could be just marketing hype but for the price it didn't make sense to not buy the charger as well...

Now if we only had sub-C rechargeable alkalines..... 1.45 Av/V ....hmmmmmmm

That would be SWEET! Same voltage and mAh with only 5 cells! See what I was talkin' about in the other thread? Then again, extra voltage with the same weight would be cool, too.

pmpnep, I have a Hitec Lynx 3D and it does have a charge jack. The nicads that came with it are going south and I was looking for alternatives. Thanks guys.. I think I will stick with Nicads.. not for performance reasons.. but more for overall life.

I bought a bunch of those Ray-O-Vac betteries a long time ago and had tons of problems with them not holding charges.

Is there a BJ's Wholesale Club in your area? At mine they are selling a Panasonic nickel metal hydride set that is sweet. For $11.99 you can get 6 AA 1600 mah batteries. For $24.99 you get 6 AA, 2 AAA, a charger that charges 4 batteries in 5 hours, and 2 each of these nifty little C and D adaptors that you can snap a AA battery into and use in a device that takes those sizes. There is a $5 rebate on the set with the charger.
