Well I finished building my STR-4 Pro last night at about 1:20am. 4 1/2 hours to complete the chassis. Everything went smoothly and the instructions were simple and clear. To properly outfit the STR-4 Pro, I decided to stick with the electronics I was familiar with and knew had a good reliability history, at least for me.

The servo selected for this new beast(first electric for me, 2nd r/c car, real R/C car anyway) was the KO 2134 Digital FET, 6v putting out 111oz of torque, at 0.08 sec transit time. Then on to the ESC. For this I turned to my LHS for their recommendation once again. As I talked with them about different subjects(real cars, r/c cars, other misc stuff) UPS arrives with what else? But a KO Propo delivery. We opened the box(me :D) and found a KO Mars EX-1 which I already had, and then looking at the invoice we noticed a rather hefty charge relating to what? AN ESC???

A $270 KO VFS-2000, Variable Frequency Speed controller with portable ESC programming module happened to arrive to my luck. The design of the ESC is so that you can have up to 32 points of throttle/frequency settings allowing you to have GREAT low end punch without sacrificing top speed. With that purchased, I then picked up another KO 297 FM receiver. Total price, electronics + chassis + body + paint... about 840 bucks. Another 300 will be needed before the car will be ready to run. Motor(stock), 3 sets of good batts, charger(Tekin BC112C, used from one of the hobby store workers for 75 bucks), and an integy discharger. Anyways onto the pictures.

WOW... What a wonderful gallery of photos!! All the manufacturers should have photos as good (and helpful too). That is a very nice looking vehicle. Are the turnbuckles stock with the adjustment holes in them? That must make it easier to tune than the "wrench type".

Which camera did you use to get such nicely detailed photos? My digital won't get nearly close enough to get that kind of detail.

Great presentation, I really enjoyed looking through it.

Ummm... OK, WTH is a STR-4 Pro ?

I am predicting we will see more and more of the TC3 wannabe's. Shafts are in, belts are OLD SCHOOL.
Team Losi:  , buy the NEW engineering quick reference guide. Yours is outdated ! I heard that "Engineering For Dummies, second issue" just got published. Maybe you should try that instead.

Jeep it's funny you mention the TC3 wannabe's... Well sadly to say this came out BEFORE the TC3. TC3 incorporates a lot of the design style found in the STR-4. The Losi XXXS is a great car. Designed well and very riggid, but too heavy for me. The STR-4 pro chassis weighs the same as the XXXS(just chassis) WITH all the electronics(motor/batts not included). The LCG is very low and for the price the car comes with a lot.

Well here's my new STR-4 Pro equipped with the following electronics. =)

KO KR-297FZ Receiver
KO 2143 Digital Fet 6v Servo(0.08 Transit, at 111oz torque at 6v)
KO VFS-2000 Speed Controller with programming module.
Matched Panasonic 3000mAh NiMH batteries
Integy 10x3(for fun, waiting on stock and 19x motors to get into the store)

The car handles AMAZINGLY well considering it came out 9 months ahead of the TC3. It is shaft driven, with a full set of BB's. Aluminum hex hubs, and threaded shocks are standard as well as the quick release drive shaft. Ball diffs front and rear accompany the universals. Carbon Graphite chassis, lower and upper deck with full ball bearing steering ackermans. Car is balanced well and handles very good. Definately as good as the TC3's when dialed in.

lol, schumacher setup wheels. More accurate for camber/toe adjustments than real wheels. =)
