allright, i have a stock rustler with the MSC, and 3 1500mAh 6 cell battery packs and i have been getting around 8 minutes of run time, and now im getting around 5, whats the deal?

Probably the batteries are dying. The 1500 packs aren't known for their quality or performance. Also, the are NiCd's, so they must be properly taken care of, you may have "memory" issues with them.

first thing up grade to a better ESC and you will notice MORE power and longer run times as they are more efficent, I am NO elec. expert I stick with nitro but getting back into elec. slowly but surely...and a couple good packs you will be good to go you can get like 3300 mah packs for like 25-30 a piece I just bought a 4200 for 49.00...and noticed ALOT more punch over my 1800 and over double the run time yeah take a little longer to charge but its worth it IMO other will tune in and give you more/better advice but just my .2 cents would be up grade to better esc for like 30.00 for the dynamite tazer 15T and a decent 3300 pack all for under 60-70 and you will be MUCH happier!

yeah, i am ordering an XL-10 to replace the MSC tommorow(wouldve ordered it today but they were closed) and i went to RS to get some GP3300s but they did not have any, so it is most likly because of the crappy 1500's and the crappy MSC?? so i should be happy with the results after i get some new batts and that XL-10?

Make sure you have a charger that will charge NiMH's! Otherwise you can damage them by using a NiCd only charger. You won't run into memory problems with the NiMH's like you can with NiCd's.

Also, as blktransam said, you will get a huge performance increase with an ESC and decent batteries.

alright, thanks alot for the info guys is the XL-10 any good? if heard some good things about them, and i have and old RS charger that will charge both(dont worry, later on im gonna buy a better one)

xl-10 is a fine ESC. quite a few features on it for the price.

alright, what do you guy suggest about a motor? im wanting something fast but without frying my ESC

Just to be on the safe side, get the fastest motor you can without "maxxing" out your esc. If the XL-10 can handle a 10 turn, buy a 12. You'll be plenty fast with a 12 turn.

Also, remember this: fast is fun, but it requires FAR more maintenance on the motor than slower motors do. To keep a 12 turn (or similar turn) motor in good running condition you are going to have to change the brushes about every 6 battery packs or so, and cut the comm occasionally. If you don't do these things you will wear the motor out much more quickly. You can push the motor longer between brush changes, but the performance will suffer.

wow, i dont think i want to keep paying for new brushes, i have heard the 17t team orion SV2 motor is pretty fast, will it be faster than the titan 12t?

Also kinda going back to the thread's original topic...remember that a hotter motor will draw more amps. This means that with a hottor motor your run times will be shorter compared to a higher turn motor with the same setup.

As far as the motors you mentioned, I would go with the orion. Although the titan is a 12t motor, the orion powerplant is much higher quality. It will also be easier to find replacement brushes, springs, etc for that motor. Don't worry about paying for brushes either. They are very cheap. Like 3-5 dollars for a new pair.

The Orion 17t will probably get near the same speed as the titan, but will have more torque and overall performance. The sv2 design will give your brushes and comm a longer life. About the runtime: your nicads may have developed a memory, and cycling them a few times should revive them. If you don't know what "cycling" is, it is where you dscharge the battery, either with a discharge function on you charger, or by driving the car until it goes maybe a little faster than you can walk, juice it up, and repeat. After a few of these, it should be good to go.

this is what my uncle suggested(he used to be in the hobby) was to fully charge them, and run the car untill the pack doesnt even have enough power to move it and do this a few times, is this a good idea?

To get rid of a "memory" effect in NiCds, yeah. Basically, it's a way of cycling the batteries (IE- charging, discharging, then charging, then discharging).
