ive got a cyclone tc, and its less than a year old. well, i had it in my tc3 racer with an 8 turn triple, geared with the standard spur and 19 totth pinion, and it worked flawlessly.

well, now i got the graphite upgrade for the racer, and i put it a 14 double in it and geared it lower than the manual suggested( i cant remember what tooth it is offhand.) my cyclone began to run VERy HOT!. i lowered the gear and still no luck. i rewired the entire thing, (before it had motor hardwired and battery tamiya's plugs (this is when it worked fine, i decided it needed clean wires so i decided to hardwire it all to make sure there were no bad connections)) well, i also put in a new peak aroura 9 trple in it with a 19 tooth pinion (the recommended). it ran even hotter. so i lower the pinion, i put in a 21 tooth. the esc nearly burnedmy finger!! batteries and motor were extemely hot too!! All capacitors are installed on the three motors, and the power capacitior has even been on the esc, which i change evry 20 packs or so.

so to make a long story short, WHAT IS GOING ON??????? :( :( :( :( :( :(

i even used some heatsinks on it, but they still get hot.

please, if anyone knows please i would appreciate any help i can get from the electric wizards of r/c :)

take your esc apart with all the caseing off spray it with motor spray thats what i doo to clean my esc it stoped it from getting hot at all if that doesnt work you blew a fet

with motorspray, that seems like it would ruin it!! :)

how could i have blown a fet?
this is my newest cyclone!!!!!

i used it on my speed control its fine just let it fully dry out and use proshot it evaporates fastest i used hpi the slowest drying ever but let it dry fully dont do it if you dont want to but my guess is you blew a fet

ok so this of off the subject (sortof) but this reminded me to ask something. i have a tekin f10 that is about a year old and it gets really hot. im running the stock SPORT TUNED motor that came with my tao3rs and the stock gears, is this just a tekin thing?

paxil you could have blown a fet too blowen fets are the main reason esc heat up or do you ether of you have a shociky diode (cant spell it) chizzler i guess you could sent it to novak i think it costs like 30 40 bucks for them to fix it email them

Your right, they will replace an item with a refurb for $40 for a cyclone. I've got a BRAND NEW C2 waiting on them to return it. It was bad out of the box.

yeah bryceums,

im a freak with being extra cautious with electronics, all motors had schotty diodes, capacitors, power capacitor on the esc
ive had several used cyclones that iwish i still had, they were so abused cause i got them used, but this one was so babied that there could have been no way to break :(
well, ive been on quite the bad streak lately too now. one cell from my team trinity 2000's died, 2 servos broke(differently), and now the esc.
sheeeeesh! :)

nsane-
how do the wires connect on the c2?
i keep hearing of an input harness, and the power capacitors look like they are wired from the inside.

let me know

oh yeah, thread has lost a little bit of meaning as to what its supposed to do!!

if anyone knows what the problem could possibly be let me know, i am deciding whether i should send it to NOVAK to be fixed, or just return it to get a remanufactured one.

How hot should a Cyclone be? I have a C2 and after a 7 min, 11 turn run in my XXXT I can touch it for about 6 sec. But I am running it in a truck and in 90º weather. I normally run stock. should I change the REALLY big power cap every 20 packs? This probly doesn't help the cap but, Im running heatsnks too.

Is to hot to touch BAD?

Thanks!

Chizzler,
Just a thought, but if you have changed to graphite, make sure nothing that conducts electricity it touching the graphite. It's light and rigid, but grpathie also conducts electricity. You make be shorting your ESC out.

Good luck

IR-

yeah, i know it conducts. i was going to post a pic of it. i run my wires long enough to JUST FIT everything so there is no slackanywhere touching anything.

things to check.....

1. use a different motor, and see what happens... (like your old 8 turn)

2. make sure you don't have any bits of wire, or any dribbles of solder shorting out on the 3 main solder tabs on the cyclone (the tabs are pretty close, i have seen people accidently short things out by have slopping wiring there)

3. try a new power cap... must be a certain type, you are not supposed to use regular radio shack ones..

peace out.... :)

i really just need to know if its worth having it fixed, or just getting a remanufactured one?
