Hello everyone,
I am a new member to the discussion list and I have a couple of questions. I just moved and started a new job, which left me looking for a hobby for the evenings/weekends. I have had two electric R/C trucks in the past and I planned on gettting back into them. Well many things have changed since I last drove my truck so I was wondernig if you guys could help me out. I plan to buy a complete new setup and here is what I am looking at. I want to say that price is not an option, but I wouldn't be upset to see a total bill of $650-700.

RC10T3 Factory team kit
LRP 7.1 ESC
Novak Millenium peak charger

Now things that I am not so sure of
Futaba 2PC Magnum Sport Radio
Is there something slightly better for a radio? Recommendations?

Motor ??
I plan to race the stock class, at least until I get better at driving.

Battery ??
I plan to buy about 5 packs, what are the batteries most common for the stock class (1700, 2000, ??) Is it worth building 1 or two packs for racing and buying the others for practice?

What else do I need to be set up to show up and race the stock class?

Numbers (how do you guys deal with the vehicle numbers?)

Crystals for radio (what do I need here)

Multiple tire combinations (obvious).

Thanks for any info you can give me.
Mark

Alright, dont listen to the guys that say get the XXX-T, you got a great set-up and I wish I were you http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif OK, everythings great so far.

1 Radio: FM offers less glitches and more tuning, but is also more expensive. The JR XR2 is a great programmable AM radio with a lot of tuning options, arguably the best AM radio. But if you can afford an FM, I recommend a JR XR3 until you get more than 3 cars.

2 Motor: P2K Copper Head Pro is arguably the best you can buy.

3 Battery: Get at least 3 race batteries and the rest what you want. Get 3000s, they're generally less maintanance with high run times. Buy them prebuilt, it'll save you money. In fact you probably only need 3 unless you want more...

4 Numbers: Dont bother, you dont need them for your club.

5 Cyrstals: Get crystals from the same company as your receiver. I recommend 2 different frequencies, 2 for radio, 2 for receiver. e.x. channel 73, one for radio, one for receiver; and channel 76 one for radio one for receiver. Make sure there is at least one space between the channel due to glitch problems.

6 Tires: you only need Pro-Line Edge in front and works on pretty much all tracks, go to your track and see what tires they use, thats your best info.

7 Others: I dunno, You need paint etc. for your body, but other than that, I dont know. If you need anything else, just go to the LHS (Local hobby Shop) and ask them, they'll be glad to sell you something http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif Hope I helped! JP

After looking at the price of the millenium charger (didn't know it needed an adaptor), I may have to change it. I was looking to spend about $150, what is the best cahrger that I can get for that? What is the best price I can get the millenium and adaptor for? The indi 16x2 looks like a reasonable cahrger (is it good enough for the 3000 packs?).

Are the trinity packs the way to go? I see the tower hobbies price for them as follows.
sanyo 3000 6 cell:
racing pack $57.99
matched pack $69.99

The biggest concern was if the 3000 batteries are legal for the stock class and if they were worth the extra cost.

1. Radio- get an Airtronics CX2P, it is a very good budget FM radio

2. Motor- get a P2K. No arguing with that

3. Battery- get a couple of preassembled packs of 2000s and a couple of packs of 3000s (be prepared to babysit the 3000s while they are on the charger though {make sure the charger is NIMH compatible**

other than that you seem pretty good

God Bless You All

Broken,

I think that the setup looks great as well!!

As for batteries, don't go with anything under 2000's, they wouldn't be worth it if you tried to go mod next, you would need all new packs. Get three race packs (matched) and the rest can be practice packs.

Charger: I forget what the actual model of the charger, but the one that I use is the orion 48 AC/DC or something like that. Very capable charger, for around $100-$120

Radio: If you can spend the extra money, so with the FM radios, they glitch less. I personally use the XR3 and it works great for me. Go with whichever one is COMFORTABLE to you, they all have different grips, but all do pretty much the same thing.

what sortof track are you running on? dirt oval or a large stadium track with jumps?

Motor: P2K Copperhead Pro or Fantom P2K
Packs: i'm not big on these but go with JP... he's normally right nad he's helped me
plenty of times.
ESC: go choice. go with LRP or Novak
Tires: Proline Edge in front and Holeshot or Bowties in the rear (unless u can only use foam tires)
I'm getting the Team Edition RC10T3... GOOD LUCK in your races once u get started! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

Your setup looks great so far.

The Indi 16x2 is a good charger, but I'm not sure if it charges using linear or pulse technology. If you get the NiMH batteries you need a linear charger.

Speaking of that, I'd skip the 3000 NiMH's altogether. You definitely don't need them if you are racing stock. I race a 12x2 mod in my truck using NiCd 2400's and I usually have almost a minute of runtime left after a 5 minute offroad race. I haven't met too many people who are pleased with their NiMH's after a season. They just seem to lose their performance too quickly, I'm talking like 100 charges and they are junk. NiCD's you are supposed to be able to get something like 700-1000 charges out of them before they really lose their edge.

As for tire, I agree that ProLine Edge for the front should see you through at almost any dirt track. Bowties and StepPins are popular for the rear at the track I race at in Ypsilanti. You should really see what the popular tire is at your track before you drop $100 on tires to experiment with.

Good luck, and welcome back to the hobby!
