i heard that you can take you armature put it in an dremal or drill spin it and sand it down with 600 or 700 grit sand paper and that is like a comm cut is this true?

Definitely an old wives tale. Sandpaper may make the comm look nice & shiny, but it does nothing to make it run true again, which is what a lathe is for. If the comm doesn't turn true, then the brushes will bounce a lot, & chew the comm up quickly(that also hurts performance)..... :)

Unless there was an extremely secure method of holding everything... it would most likely mess it up. I remmeber hearing of using the fine sandpaper for quick cleaning, but it's the same as a comm stick, no where near as good as a real cut.

Hey, if you find one, like $55 or less, tell me too... it sure would be nice to have one... but I would rather buy another car... :) I just hope the Novak brushless are a bit less expensive than predictions, then I can just replace all my motors, yeah right...

kartrun: you mean you've never heard the term "old wives tale" before?

I only use the Dremel (and only on a severely distorted comm) to remove much of the excess bulk before truing with the lathe. That saves time and saves the wear and tear on my bit. I never substitute the Dremel for a lathe.
