Ok so i just recently picked up a TC4 and am searching for a better steering servo. A question came to my mind though, do i really need a metal gear servo for an on road? I was looking at this hobbico cs-64 (84 oz-in @ .15sec) and i can get one of those for about $23. Saves me a lil cash by going the plastic gear way. So what do you guys think, any other inexpensive suggestions???

When you purchase a rtr car, it's setup with the lower grade electronics. Upgrading to a MG/HT/HS/BB,. servo, is always a good thing to do.

A good servo saver and an upgraded servo will take you a long way... if you drive well enough. After replacing the servo or at least the gears a few times due to crashes, you will have reached the cost of a good servo and exceeded the allowable headache factor by at least 3X. Spend $50 now and don't look back or try a servo for cheaper that has a replaceable gearset that can be changed out to metal later. I know you can do it on some Hitec servos but I am thinking you would be better off with a better brand if you are spending the money. The metal gear servos will weigh a little more than all plastic ones, but it depends on your driving style as to if they will last.

Yes, you want a metal geared servo. If you're trying to stay cheap, I'd suggest going with either the Hitec 525MG or 625MG. The 625 is considerably torquier, but I think the 525 is quicker. I run the 525MG in my Losi BK2 with no problems.

Yea for some reason im feeling really cheap and im still thinking no MG for the TC4 lol. I have an upgraded servo in my buggy that i run so i know how big of a performance gain there is but i still need some more convincing. You guys brought up some good points though thanks for the comments.
