View Full Version : Enforcer manta ray plus ridiculous horsepower equals?

Well, as I'm sure many know here, I am the proud owner of an enforcer Manta Ray, and I love it. Great fun, maneuverable, big, loud, and powerful. However, recently, I've been considering some modifications

Specifically, I've been eyeballing the high torque version of the Quickdraw Super 25. Does anyone have experience with vastly overpowering this hull? This would bump it from ~4hp to ~7.4 hp, so a MASSIVE increase, and bump up from 13000rpm to 17000 or more, so this would not be a minor change...

Would it handle the extra power well? It seems VERY stable on the Zenoah, so I'd be inclined to think it could handle the extra power with ease, but before I go blowing hundreds of dollars, I want to know for sure.

Finally, would it work with the stock pipe? The big gas pipes aren't cheap, especially the QD's, and if I can get say 6.5hp on the stock pipe (WH wet tuned), I wouldn't spend $250 for a QD pipe just for the extra horse or so.

Thanks
Chris

Chris, before jumping in on QD, have you considered other options to keep the cost down? I know for a fact that the better engine guru's out there will listen to you and find out what you're wanting from the modifications along with your boat & pipe setup.

Just a thought. But hey, I'll support & applaud you throughout the endeavor. :)

Ps,
I think that 4playracing (sp) was a member here & he did up a QD Manta Ray with a Z-Drive. Not the same, but very similar.

Found him HERE (http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=193549&highlight=Manta+Ray)

You must use the QD pipe, or perfprmance will suffer. think Mitch won't sell without the pipe

I know they sell without the pipe, and I realize performance will suffer, but if it does not suffer too much, I would live with it (as that is an EXPENSIVE pipe). DD: what other options are you talking about? If I could boost the horsepower significantly for lower than $400, I'd love to know about it. I'm just looking at possibly bumping up the performance a bit, if the hull can handle it (ok, more than a bit).

Get Bonzi to put a BZX4 mod on your motor for $300.00, it will put you up to 6hp.

How many Bonzi engines do you hear winning races? As hard as I run my engines, I want it to be built by a guru that can do more than just a little port work. They have excellent customer service & support and cater real good to the sport boater, but the racers just don't run their engines.

Chris, check out CC RACING ENGINES (http://hometown.aol.com/ccracingengines/index.html) who builds the worlds fastest Zenoah.

TOXIC AL (http://www.toxicmarine.com)

FASTRAT PORTING SERVICE (http://www.rcuniverse.com/community/profile.cfm?section=profile&forum=1&memid=9584)

Even a few others out there.

Main thing I'm stressing is that you contact them. Explain the hull / engine you have, what you're currently getting with it, and what your expectations are. IF they are a good engine builder, they will do more than just take your engine & modify it. They will ask you where you want to go, what pipe and length it will take to get there.

It's like buying a tailored suit. You don't buy it off the shelf & it fits perfect the first time. No. this is tailored to fit you & your hull so it takes time & a repore.:)

Send in your engine, spend a few hundred bucks to get a mod & pipe along with a different running boat. I'm sure a new carb upgrade will be in your future also if you're not running a 257 now. Peace.

I'll look in to that. Sounds like that may be the way to go, and would definitely boost the power quite a bit.

Chris

Check out the redline motors as well lower cost than a CC or toxic marine but they perform very well. I run one in my cyclone cat and she does in the low 60's with an 6518/3. However the CC engines are great as I run one of those also in the XXX boat. But a CC engine cost about 600.00 a redline is 350.00.
