I'm looking into getting a XXX4 electric buggy and I was wondering if a stick pack will work. On horizonhobby they rec. using saddle packs but it doesn't say it's required. Any info would be great and thanks in advance, Steve

A stick pack will work but side by sides are better. The battery hold down bar is reversible for stick or SXS packs.Ive used both in mine and I have had stick packs come out a couple times in crashes but never had a SXS come out.

I assume you meant side by side packs when you said saddle. The stock XXX4 wont take saddle packs. There are aftermarket goodies that will allow use of saddle packs in the XXX4 however.

I just realized you might be looking at the XX4 it does take saddle packs and it has to be saddle packs.

yeah I meant side by side but I'm not the greatest at building batteries so now that I have this info I know I can purchase this vehicle without worrying about building packs.

Its just my opinion but if you want a 4wd buggy do alot of research and comparing.Personally I hate my XXX4G+ its the worst buggy I have ever owned.I always tease my wife not to look at it too hard because it will break.I'm sure others will say its not a bad buggy but it really only has 2 features broke, and about to be broke:)

What kind of problems are you having Slink? I was pondering getting one. I want a 4x4, but one that won't do wheelies, and is more stable than the Emaxx. I have the XXX-T RTR, it's pretty cool, but for bashing, it is limited since it was designed for the track.

The thing constantly breaks! I bought it mid season and its record on the track was less than impressive. It always yeilded a did not finish. It made it thru heats here and there but I couldnt keep it running for the day.I understand breaking parts hitting things but the XXX4G+ breaks parts over bumps, jumps (even well landed ones). Its true I love AE products but I'm certainly no losi hater I have several older losi buggys that are awesome & durable but the XXX4 just seems like its made of Glass. Now durability aside when its not broke it handles great and is very fun to drive. After about 7 or 8 races my XXX4 is being retired as it is not track worthy.I'll find a new 4WD buggy before the next season starts.

It's not really a great buggy for back yard bashing, although I do bash it quite a bit and the only thing I've broken was a hinge pin mount for one of the A-arms... which was replaced with alu. ones. There's an article on the web on "how to make your XXX-4 bullet proof". I really like the looks of the MRC buggy, and for bashing the Tamiya Dark Impact would be my choice. There aren't a lot of hop-up options that you can get for the XXX-4 other than the G+ stuff. The other 2 cars that I mentioned on the other hand have tons of hop-up, mostly the tamiya DI. So I think you need to know what you want to do with this buggy... race, or bash. If I was going to race I wouldn't pick any other 4wd buggy than the XXX-4G+.
