View Full Version : Motor caps
For some reason the search came up with nothing. I am new to using open endbell motors and I need to solder caps onto my motor. What size do I need? I know that I need three of them and how to wire them, I just don't know what capacitance I need. Thanks.

I think that they are 1 microfarad non polar caps. Also double check any newer motors, many have caps in place already.

.1 microfarads. Most Stock motor do need them. The purpose of the caps are to suppress the sparks of brushes andthe commutator. causing interferance. Some modified motor doesnt need them, depend on the manufacture if to use them or not. You can But them at any LHS, electronics wherehouse, Radio Shack for cheap.
So the motor will run without them? Put deans on my XX4 stuff last night and when I hooked up my new orion motor nothing happened. The speedo was programmed and worked with a different motor. Then I realized I was missing the caps on the orion and figured that was it. Maybe I have a bigger problem.

The motor will run w/o the caps. Check out your Orion motor. Maybe the brushes are seating correctly, remove and reinstall them. Or use a ohmmeter, put it across the motor lead, it should show deflection while turning the pinion by hand. Remove the battery of coarse. If it does show a deflection, the brushes arent seated correctly.
