I am building a new track. 10' lanes, etc. etc. I would like to get some input from you guys. I have enough room and slope where we will have about 10' of elevation change, and that is the way I like my tracks. But, I am curious how other racers feel about them. I am going for a mix of technical, and HIGH speed. I also want to know how you guys feel about multiple types of surfaces. I have two types of dirt to use, red clay, and local top soil, which is sandy. "I" want to add a coblestone section, and maybe a grass stretch. Please let me in on your thoughts.

If your track was in florida I would race there! I like your idea, I had the same idea. I say go for it, you'll never know until you build it how people will react to it. I would like to see some sand tracks too just like the real thing, Baja style...... Chris

I like the multi surface idea also. It kinda makes you think as far as what setup (tires, springs, oil) would be good for all conditions as well as make you drive differently depending on what part of the track your on.

I love the idea.I generally prefer offroad tracks that are true offroad. It seems the trend is high bite hard packed clay.I dont care for that! Its like running on concrete its just a little too groomed to be like natural offroad.I generally race outdoor offroad because the racing surface is more natural.I like the dust and the loss of traction. It forces people to setup there cars and drive. It not only sounds like a track I would love to run my buggy on it sounds like a place the grassroots rally drivers dream of.If you build it post pics PLEASE!

Today 68/84 temps. might cool of tuedays!LOL's 40%fri,50%sat, and 60%sun rain chances! I don't think I could live with out high ins. rates and taxes!LOL's Where in Fla did you live? Tracks here are either clay, asphalt, or concrete. Ran on all three and I'm just board to death with them! If I had the property to build a track and the spair money to insure it....... I would! Your Idea will work, Do it!

Depends on what you want the track for. Is it for yourself and a few friends, or do you plan on running regular races? The "hard core" racers tend to want the hard packed clay. We have tried a lot of things, including a log crossing (1/2" dia. branches across the track for about 12') a floating (suspension) wood bridge, river bed stone area. Lot of neat stuff. But when it comes to bringing in the people, they usually want the clay.
One thing for sure is your not going to please everyone. Build it and I'm sure you will get imput on what they don't like.
And yes post pics.
Some pics of the way it used to look.

I don't care i will race on it all and have. In the North East you see alot of tracks that have diffrent surfaces. You get use to a clay surface and have trouble on loamy tracks. We have one clay track where you run slicks all the way around (indoor track). Not too big but mega traction, like running on blacktop but with more grip, and the fast guys are FAST.
I would like to make my own beater track for testing and what not and a multi surface is what i plan.
Pleaseletmeon34, I love Checkerboards, but missed this years turkey race. Is the track still a multi surface? I remember the bridge too, that was the first track i raced on with a lane split, very nice.

Na, its all clay now (well, there is some stones coming through lol). But we are going to add more clay shortly. A lot of work has been done the last few weeks, hopefully no rain out days next year.
All that stuff was cool, but you have to be willing to change.

I am back. I spent the last 3 days plowing, shoveling, and pulling people out of the snow. We got 18" of the wet cold kind, w/ 40 mph winds. WE got us a white Christmas. Anyway,,,
I am going to try n get hooked up in a local series. But it is mostly for us locals and anybody who wants to stop by. I wouldn't mind to get a big race, but that falls into the "IF" category. "IF" I win the lottery, I will do...... HA!HA!
I like the log idea, that might get added. I can't have any water crossings, we have alot of zapper heads(:D electric racers) around here, and I don't think they would enjoy the smell of a shorted out speed controller, etc. etc. :D :D
