sorry this isn't adding to your discussion, but i'm looking to do this as well, I've done some research, but I always find myself going overboard and gettin into like $800 motors and $1500 ESCs :P

There is a forum here dedicated to this:

Do a search in that forum for 1/8 scale conversions. There's several threads on that particular subject.;)

Yes, the forum for brushless motors contains all of the information you need, as well as the people who can best help you. Besides, I was stating where he (she?) could best be helped, so xfusion, your post is the most useless.

nope, you're just an a55. The guy is just asking for a little help with converting his truggy into electric, if you gave him direct links to the topics (I searched and didn't find anything relevant) then that'd be helping. Also, there's nothing wrong in giving websites aside from this one, but for some reason you'd just like to make the guy feel stupid by stating the obvious. So there's a whole forum dedicated to brushless, but it doesn't exactly relate to what he's doing/wanting to do. Be helpful, not degrading.

(All I searched for was "1/8", which you could easily narrow down for more detailed searches... Check out the results and read. I just scanned the results for a second and saw AT LEAST three probably useful threads.;))

ET, your search brought up "no results" for me. So, I will link the first few threads relating to BL 1/8 buggies that came up on the search in the Brushless Motor Forum:
http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=228489&highlight=1%2F8
http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=196185&highlight=1%2F8

http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=225698&highlight=1%2F8
http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=227139&highlight=1%2F8
Just to list a few.

xfusion, how am I being degrading when you are using degrading language? I did not mean to push your "buttons", I merely supplied a link to a forum dedicated to this sort of thing. In fact, here's a link to one of my 1/8 buggy conversions, located in the Brushless Motor Forum:

Well considering that he wants to convert a Nitro to electric, non of the links bare much useful information. 2-3 of the links show off the finished product, but this by no means illustrates how to go from nitro to electric. Your conversion is probably the worst example of them all.

I think gman123 should be the judge of the usefulness of these links, not you.

That's odd. It worked last night. Maybe the search "expires" after a few hours. Meh. Point still stands, there's tons of electric conversion stuff in the BL motor forum. You just need to look for it. Case closed. :teacher:

I've never checked out Fine Design's prices before (and don't plan on it because of customer feedback), but from places like RC-Monster (http://www.rc-monster.com ) and Starluck RC (http://www.starluckrc.com ), you can get brushless stuff for a lot less money that will be better.

As for Fine Design's conversions, my opinion is that they aren't any good (I have my reasons, if you would like me to, I can list them).

 Not to get to off topic but i have never dealt with fine design myself, and after reading the RCCA review of one of their models, i thought that they looked to be worthy of my business. So please do explain.

Also I am checking out rc monster right now.

I am a huge fan of starluck rc for brushless stuff, as I think it is Jaimie that works there is a huge help in helping you find the proper setup for you vehicle, I would suggest dropping him an email or callling to find out what motor and controller you should use.

As for the original post, you will need to give us more information than just that you are converting your 1/8 to brushless to let us help. We cannot help with just that information. What vehicle, what voltage are you looking at ect. We just need more information.

I have heard:
-bad customer support
-extra credit card charges
-not honoring warrantees
-not knowing what works best with cars (they are more of a boat company)

From what I have seen:
-conversions use boat motor mounts, not proper car mounts
-thin velcro straps could break (I've broken thicker velcro straps)
-odd (heavy) modified clutchbells instead of regular 5mm bore mod1 pinions
-not listing specs on the motor that is included with their conversions
-claim of 55-60mph using 4s Lipo, which doesn't seem possible (would cause the motor and ESC and battery to heat up a lot)
-EXPENSIVE

I like the products that fine design sells, but i will probably not go to them to buy now that have doubt about the company. However they still have some of the best motors and ESCs in one place; so i will probably continue to check them before buying.

Just make sure to check out RC-Monster. They have all of the motors that you would ever want to use in a RC car or truck, as well as all of the ESCs you could ever need, for all cell counts.
