Well to at least partially answer the topic question a stock motor has fixed timing and has 27 winds. Not all stock motors can be rebuilt either. A mod motor can be either machine wound or hand wound and usually has between 6 to 26 winds. Mods usually have adjustable timing. Also most mods, I can't think of any that can't, can be rebuilt.
I think people like the stock is that they are user friendly, work with 99.9% of the ESCs and give more run time then mods. Not to mention they are more "controllable" then a "Hot" mod motor. Oh, and lets not forget that they are almost always under $50 bucks.
Hope this helps,
Jerry

The stocks that I see are about $20 only.

Rebuildabl stocks in my area are about $30 and machine mods run about $32 to $35.

If you can order from mail-order places, stocks can be found as low as 15 bucks (like the Kyosho line and the Tower Hobbies stocker), and mods like the new Orion line and the older Monsters of Touring line are under 20 bucks. Thats good cheap speed. Check out online places, because they also give decent descriptions on motors. There are racing classes that are stock-only, which allow us wee little people to race competitively against others with about-equally powered r/c's.

Well a good stock motor would be one of these:
Reedy MVP
P2K
P2K pro
Paradox

Some good Mod. motors are:
Reedy Pulse
Reedy Ti
Reedy Rage

Personally i think Reedy makes the best motors. The P2K's are made by Trinity and are probably the most popular stock motors on the market.

Mod also takes a bit more skill to race compared to
stock. That probably deters some people from trying mod.

The Reedy Rage is a stock motor, I think your thinking of the Reedy Fury, which is a mod motor.

Stock:
Orion Chrome
Trinity P2K Pro
Reedy Rage Type R
Trinity Green Machine 3

Mod:
Trinity D4 (hand wound)
Reedy Ti (hand wound)
Reedy Fury (hand wound)
Trinity Speed Gems 2 (machine wound)

I think stocks are more widely chosen because theyre overall cheaper. They have less maintanance, and are overall cheaper than mods, not to mention easier to drive with.

BTW - B3 Bomb. Can you type in default black? I think the colors were meant for 1 word in a sentance to stress something, not to type the whole thing in. It looks weird having you be the only one type in blue. k?

Ok I feel the need to explain my inflated prices on my previous post. I was just shooting a ball park figure and wanted to error on the high side to make it a happy surprise rather then a oh no I didn't bring enough cash. :D
I also was thinking that one reason stock motors are so popular is that there are more novice racers then pros. ;)
Have we answered your questions? Hope we have helped,
