Hello everyone,
Back when I was 15, I saved my money from my paper route for the summer and bought a Dumas Deep Vee CF40. Unfortunately I could never save up enough to get the motor or drivetrain. Needless to say 28 years later I found this brand new boat still in the attic of my parents house! I was out of R/C for many years, but a few years ago I started to get into Nitro off road trucks. I have decided I would like to give boating a try now, I found my boat and I am wondering if this boat is worthy of spending some cash on? After seeing what is out there now, it blows my mind what you can spend now. What I am looking for is a boat that will run mid to low 40s, something I can play around with the family and have fun while we are out on our 212 Baja. I also would like to give racing a try, I do not expect to win, but would like something that at least gives me the chance to be competitive if I can drive it. I have been reading up on the Zen motors and they seem pretty awesome, but I don't know if that would be too much motor for this 40" hull? I also stopped by my LHS and they happen to have a O.S. 61 marine motor brand new in the box, that he would love to swap for one of my cars, which would be very easy for me, but I haven't read anything about running O.S. marine motors. I am no stranger to Nitros and know how much work they are, but love the smell and the power. I am preparded to spend some cash to have a nice boat, but I don't want to skimp on the hull if they have improved that much over the years. But it would be cool to get this boat running after all these years! I would also like to invite you to check out a video from a R/C event I have started in Minnesota called the R/C X Games, we were just in the december issue of Xtreme R/C Cars Magazine and Inside R/C will be airing a whole show on the X Games this week on the Outdoor Channel. This years events featured the most insane off road track you have ever seen, a mini off road coarse, rock crawling, spud run, jumping competitions and R/C planes! The only thing we had missing was some R/C boat racing on the pond next to the off road track. My goal is to change that for next year! Here's the link to our first years video... enjoy!

If anyone is interested in helping out with some boating events for next years event, please let know!
Thanks alot, Mike

I have heard very good things about OS motors & I personally run an OS outboard. Love that little motor.

That is the most awesome rc video I've ever seen! I'd travel just to watch that event. Wonder how much money in damages those racers did to themselves!! LOL :D

I'm a bit confused about the boat you have - with Dumas hulls the '40' refers to the engine size, not the hull length. Since you refer to a .61 engine I assume you actually have a DV60, which was about 40" long.

The Dumas Deep Vees were never noted for blazing performance, and with today's power I have no idea how they'd run. I think that the hull is on the small side for a gas engine. But since it is free, it will give you the experience of setting up a modern nitro boat and you can learn from your mistakes in building and driving. If it runs well, great! If not - then just get another proven hull and transfer the equipment over.

Thanks Kirker, it was a blast! SlapMaFro is still working on the video from this year, I will post it when he gets it done.

Fluid, I thought it was a DV40, just because it is 40" long. I just came across this O.S. 61 by luck, because this shop doesn't carry marine motors. I can't remember what size motor this boat was designed for, so I have no idea if this 61 is OK or too much motor??

I'm quite certain that it is a DV60 from the length - that engine would probably be a good fit for it.

Actually, if you could look at the prices from 20 years ago, they realy haven't gone up but in some cases have gone down and with better quality.
I have seen a DV-60 run at of all places, the IMPBA Internat's, our big race of the year. The water conditions were'nt even close to being ideal and the boat did well for itself. I quit my snickering after seeing how well it finished the heats.

actually it could be the deep vee 40. i have that same kit sittin in the basement that is going together next. it is one from way back. It says it is good for up to a .61 right on the box. but if you look on the dumas site now the same kit only calls for a .40 size. motor.so what i figure is with todays power difference compared to yester years power they had to decrease the motor size to keep it together. todays hot .40 size is probally equal in power to 20 year old .61s,But if it was me i would stuff the badest .61 in it anyway just to see how insane it can get . But thats me.Good luck keep us informed.

Thanks HDboater, I checked out a Dumas catalogue and it does look like the deep vee 40. I made the deal and have the O.S. 61 motor, I started looking into running hardware and I am just floored with all thats out there!! Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
