Hoping to have more success on my next checkered flame job.
Did one before and had the shading go wrong. What exactly do you want to shade in the white squares?
Anyone have any pics, hoping to get good at this effect.
P.S. the tear away idea is great

The white squares don't really need shading, just the colored ones.

I recommend using spray tint to shadow the white squares. Just thin it out a little because you dont want too dark! Subtlety is key!

I was doing white and black. So I shaded the white a bit to make it look 3d. I've seen a lot of people shade like this, just don't know what i'm trying to aim for.
I used some over reduced Parma Fasblack.

Here was my first attempt at a shadowed flag. I shadowed the white with pure black, and the black with pure white.

Both of those were very helpful.
I've basically just started to make a library of different paint effects and paint schemes for future reference on my computer.
