RS has two different NIMH's. They're both green but some are 1500mah's and some are 1600mah's, so look before you buy.

You could try rechargable alkalines, there called Pure Energy here in Canada, you may be able to get them in the US too.

I'm using nicads in my z from radio shack, 20 minute run time no problem.

You could probley go to some place like Radio Shack or something. Thats where i got my rechargeable AA batteries for my controller.
