If I want my RS4 Rally electric to run at 50mph+ how should I setup it up? Which motor ( how many turns and coils ), speed control, battery ( 2400+ ), and gearing should I use? What is the estimated run time if my car is setup to run at 50mph+? Thanks.

First, if I were you, I'd look through the airplane magazine and look at the gas turbine engines. Buy one of those and some industrial strength duct tape. Now tape the engine to your car (don't let the nay sayers get to you, it will hold if you wrap it around several times) Now fire it up. Your gonna go mostly straight. Depending on the size gas tank you use, you should get about 10 minutes of run time, unless you run in a small area, in which case it's gonna be about 10 seconds before you hit something and the whole thing goes up in flames. This setup will almost guarantee you double your goal of 50mph.

That was funny, HauntedMyst. I believe the HPI Rally is direct-driven, so getting some speed out of it shouldn't be dificult. The Novak Fusion is more affordable, as is Tekin's Speedstar and Rebel, and they will take bigger motors. You'll need a super-revving motor- the Trinity Monsters of Touring motors are good winds, and they're cheaper than the D4 line. You'll want something down in the 10T-13T range. You've got the right idea with a 2400 battery. I'm told that the 3000's are great, too, but cost is high. You never stated what kind of budget you're on. As for gearing, you'll have to do the testing, starting with what you have. Make sure you have good rubber on your wheels. I really like HPI's treaded tires, medium compound. Maybe others will have input on this.

Actually, Orion or Peak is coming out with a line of motors named after their spee. Just get one of the 50mph ones and follow their gearing suggestions.

Actually the rally isn't direct driven but it is shaft drive (like the TC3). TO get 50 out it you will end up spending a lot. A while back in RCCA I saw an article of the speed of a Dual Sport (2wd TC with a 2-speed). Well an 11 turn motor (handwound) with a top of the line speed control and 2000 matched batteries pushed it to 39 mph. If you are going for 50 you might just want to buy a gas touring car that comes out of the box going 50 mph.

The Guiness(sp?) Record RCCA issue just had a TC3 break like 70 wasn't it? I don't know where it's at now... they just filled the car with batteries and an 11 turn motor I believe... it shouldn't be too dificult at all. Just pick up a fast motor, some extra batteries, and play with the gearing.

Hey gubbs3, unless that AE DS was modified... it does have a transmission, a stealth to be exact... so the TC and rally cars are a bit more direct since there is no box o' gears, just pulleys or a shaft.

That was the modified pan chassis one that hit 117... not the TC3

the TC3 did 96.4mph with 14 reedy 2000 cells.and a modified reedy 12 turn motor(used a different can and magnets)the L3O, did 111mph with an Avoex 2-turn brushles motor and ESC,and 24 1000mah 2/3 sub-C cells..
