Hey guys. i have been reading up on radios and receivers but I am stuff confused. Can someone explaine how it works out? Like explaine the whole thing. frequensys and such. I would Greatly thank u.

:huh: Okay, I will do my best. The tx (transmitter) receives your input from the trigger and steering wheel. It will then send the info to the rx (receiver) via radio waves, with the frequency designated by the crystal. The receiver will receive the broadcast from the transmitter, and tell the steering servo and the esc or throttle servo what to do. Does this answer your question? I hope it makes sense.

crystals are what specifies what radio is controling what car, if they where all the same, one guy would controll every car on the track.

There are several types of frequency available: 27MHZ and 40MHZ (in the UK) and 72 MHZ in the us for cars. when you get your radio identify which it is by looking at the crystal (sometimes abbreviated to XTal) and see which is frequency band it is closes to , so if you have for example 26.995 it is a 27MHZ radio.

you need identical crystals for your transmittor and reciver, but one that is TX and one that is RX (transmittor and revceiver Xtal).

So any reciver or transmitter would work together if they have the same crystal right?

not exactly, any transmitter and receiver will work if they are on teh same band AND the same crystal, so a 72MHZ receiver would not work with a 27MHZ transmitter regardless of crystals.

However any radio that is on the right band (27, 72 40...) and has the same crystal will work together.

Radios are called radios because they operate on the radio spectrum just like your car radio, cordless phones, and wireless internet/wifi. Basically there is a range of frequencies open for public use. Other frequencies are owned by companies, organizations, government, and whoever else and arent open to free use. Basically a radio frequency is an electromagnetic wave that is created by a powered antenna. For example, when a radio station broadcasts they are broadcasting through a big antenna somewhere. Let's say you hear "You're listening to 92.1 FM - Smooth Jazz!" Basically that means they're broadcasting at 92.1mhz. So basically, let's say the radio antenna is the radio. Then, what's your receiver? your receiver is the same thing as your car radio. If you flip your radio to 92.1 FM, it will start receiving anything broadcasting on 92.1 FM. "92.1" means they are broadcasting at 92,100,000 cycles/second. The higher the number of cycles, the cleaner your signal will be. The less interference, the better. The next radio I plan to purchase is actually "Spektrum" brand. They don't operate on the typical 27 or 75mhz, they actually operate on a large spectrum up to 2.4ghz. That means 2,400,000,000 cycles per second. This is the same frequency that most wireless internet stuff uses as well as many cordless phones. Some awesome things the Spektrum brand radios are:

cleaner signal (due to high frequency)
less interference (also due to high freqgency)
very short antenna (about 6" - also due to high freqgency)
a huge range of frequencies mean that you'll never have problems at the track interfering with other racers
requires NO crystals

Anyway, that's the general idea of radio frequencies and such. The Spekdrum dx2 runs about $160 for the 2.4ghz radio, matching receiver, and 2 standard servos. These radios are very nice pieces of equippment. Anyway, hope that makes sense! Later, guys!

So, naturally your radio and receiver have to operate on the same frequecy for them to work correctly together.

Wow, thxs for helping me out. I need to get a new reciver for my truck and just wanted to know some more about radio's reciuvers befor I do anything stupid >.<! Thxs again!
