I need to replace the servos on some of the Rustlers. I can't afford expensive one because we still need other parts. I'm looking to spend about $10-$15. I tried to replace a servo with one I had from an old car but the plug would not fit into the Traxxas receiver. Do I need to buy a specific servo? Will these fit?

well, the 2 futaba's would be okay, but if you can, see if you can find the Traxxas equal to the 2055 high toque..

thats the ideal servo you want.a minimum of 80 oz of torq at 4.8v and 18sec transit time.thats the ideal one you want and metal geared

Now I bought a servo like this 3 years back when it was labled cs60mg! very good servo just as fast as the 3003s but last way longer also has BB and Metal gears for only $10 more than the 3003s and $15 less that a similar hytec servo. http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/440703.asp The 625hytec is faster smoother servo but both are very reliable servos! BTW my CS60 I still have it and still works 3 years later. My sons truck is still running it! I would go cirrus if not hytec 625!

I tried to speak to our coordinator about funds again but she keeps telling me that she'll get back to me once she runs the numbers. I can't blame her, the budget was cut which makes her job very difficult. She implied that she might be able to give me a max. of $300 but that would be it for the year. You can imagine how difficult it is for me to determine what will need replacing next. I'll check out the servos you guys suggested. Thanks again for the help!!!

I second the Hitec 625MG. Ive ran one for 8 years, and its still as strong as the first day i purchased it.

I almost always run the S3003. They're cheap, and they work fine for bashing (I've raced with them plenty as well).I currently have one in my B3. For a rustler, I would probably suggest something with just a little more torque than the 3003. I'm sure since you have a rustler that you're most likely not racing. So personally I would say that the high speed, ball bearing stuff isn't quite as important as high torque and maybe metal gears (if you can afford it). Out of those ones you posted, I would suggest either of the Futaba units. I'm not sure if the micro units will fit or not, but either way you shouldln't get one. You're paying extra for the compactness when the money would better be spent on other features. Also, different receiver manufacturers use slightly different shaped plugs. Usually if you buy a servo you will get whichever shape the manufacturer of the servo uses. You can always steal a plastic plug from an older servo and slide it on to the new servos wires to make it fit. There are 3 little tabs that kind of hold the wires in place within the plastic plug. If you take an x-acto knife you can pull the little tabs up and pull the wires out. Then in the same way, just slide the wires in to your new plug. Make sure you insert the wires correctly! You have to make sure that the same side that was against the tabs is against the tabs with the new plug so the tabs will snap in place correctly. Also, more obviously, make sure to plug the wires in the right order. If you lose track of how they're ordered, just look at where your ESC plugs in to the receiver and just copy the same color code order. After you put the wires in the plug correctly I usually push down on the tabs to kind of make sure that they're gonna hold nice and tight. Whoa! My left nipple just got freezing! So, anyway, good luck!
