I would officially like to toss my hat into the ring to write the review of the new Kyosho KX-One. Now, I know what you are thinking, "Great, another imbecile wanting a free car who can't write above the 4th grade level!" Well I am not your average imbecile, I am an imbecile of extraordinary proportions and I will have you know my Flesch Kincaid scores put me at the 7.5 grade level mister! Don't you think your readers are tired of reading reviews by people who know stuff? Don't you think they would like to to read a review written by your average R/Cer? "Hey, this guy thinks like me! I bet he wrote this late at night in his underpants like I do!" And by gosh, they'd be right! I could write a whole column on "How to drive while you chaff" - a common problem with us R/Cers. (Note to self, remember to bring baby powder to the track for those unsuspected bindages.)
Just think of the added benefits to you, the RCCA staff. I can be your scape goat! The next time someone writes or calls in and says "What idiot wrote that article?" You can say "HauntedMyst" even if it wasn't me! See, I'm adding value already...
:) (I can feel a free car coming already!)

I hate to tell you guys but haunted is right. I have talked to him before and I understand what he means when he talks. All of us r/c'ers don't know all the terms and everything and i think its a real good idea to let him do the test. And i think its should be done a little more often. you should randomly pick people to test products.

yeah, when i first got my T3 it was my first kit. I was like "uhhhh i think i put the big gear on backwards" or "hmmm this slipper thing, is it alright i tightened all the way?" If I had someone helping me who didnt say everything like it was an exact defenition then maybe i would of been where i am now in RC a year ago. I say give it a shot!

LOL Haunted...you assume the articles are written wearing a suit & tie?
I've written most of my articles just as you described...on my laptop, t-shirt & shorts, no shoes, drinking a Dr Pepper ;)

Shorts? Shorts? You are one of the establishment. Shakespeare, Falkner, Hemingway, etc... all the greatest write in their undies. It keeps your ideas free flowing. :)

He can review the car by purchasing his own kit and writing a review. Just like the thread stated "How to write for RCCA".
Here's a couple of reasons why we don't like to randomly pick people:
1. They might not know how to write (wait, I don't scratch that).
2. As a reader I would find it more interesting to know how an "expert" or somebody that has driven most cars finds a car to be. If I read a review on a full sized car by a reader of car and driver, I would find it easier to beleive that the guy writing it would be less subjective than somebody who has been driving cars for as long time.
3. We don't know you.
4. It's already been done....
Not trying to offend anybody, if you want to write for us, do it the way we told you.
Derek :)

CarHead,
Thank you and everyone else for your support but I was just joking around with my odd sense of humor. The idea of a guy writing in his underpants struck me as funny. (oh yeah, and I want one of those new cars :) ) I have actually written quiet a bit in my lifetime and it's not as easy as it sounds (heck read any of my posts and count the blunders). I could write an article on painting but Bob does a great job with that already (Now if his column was only monthly!) I, for one, don't want to see a review written by your average reader unless its about a bashing vehicle because, well frankly, those don't need expert opinions. The average joe just wants to know how easy those are to build, how durable it was and how well it ran. Pro cars are another story entirely for a number of reasons. Just because you drive well doesn't mean you write well and vice versa. While I can tell you that my TC3 drives better then my Pro 2, I can't necessarily(sic) tell the subtle nuances of why. With all the bluster and bravado you read on the boards, the simple truth is that 95% of us run for fun and can't really tell you what to change on a car first or why that change is important (example: when to change the shock springs before you change the oil weight or when to change the spur over the pinion, why a sport ESC doesn't run with the effieciency of a Racing version, etc.). We rely on the 5% who do know the difference. If you think anyone could write a clean, coherant review of a car that people would actually pay to read, you are mistaken. If that were the case, RCCA would have much more competition then it does. As far as I know, there are only 3 RC car mags and only 2 do I respect. These guys are professionals at what they do and you have to respect the time and effort they have made to be professionals at it and that experiance, like anything else in life, doesn't come lightly.

I would like to counter HauntedMyst by saying that my FK levels rate at grade 11 or HIGHER!!! So If the RCCA guys need someone to write the review for the KX-One IM YOUR GUY!!!

Hey Andrew, Hauntedmyst BY FAR (at least from what i can tell :)) is NOT A KID!!!!!!!
you know what, something struck me as a good idea....
what if several members of this board who are around alot, as well as a few others, put a little bit of money into getting the car.
then, with everyone's own equipment, they can test it however they wish. Like they break something, they pay for the new part and fix it, etc.
everyone who puts in gets to test it.
like everyone gets a week or something, then sends it to the next person.
then, at the end, everyone compiles a report and then write a huge review on it for RCCA :)
maybe even then when all is said and done, give it to a kid who REALLY needs it, or even sell it and give back part of people's money who put in(obviously, they would not get it all back)maybe even raffle it off in rcca
i know everyone's gonna hate this idea, say its stupid, whatever. just dont!
its merely an idea.............to have fun with the hobby and share with fellow enthusiasts!
(i myself really dont want to test it, so dont think im trying to say this as any type of deviant ploy :D)

I have no problem at all with the way RCCA writes their articles... i understand easily. But I also don't read the Nitro articles because... simply put... i'd get confused. hehe. i'm electric ONLY. although i wouldn't mind to read an article written by haunted myst. and guys... if RCCA gave out free stuff all the time... the magazine wouldn't be a business. (it would be a charity) :)

So it appears I have a majority vote! Send me the car!!!!!!
Stephen, I got the joke, I was saying you should write in your undies.
Carhead, as for the brown nosing, you were the one who implied any one could write an article, I simply stated you were wrong.
low, when did i say the RCCA guys didn't do a good job? reread what i wrote and get back to me will ya? And no, I would wager very few of them went on to higher ed for the purposes of journalism/mag writing. Stephen, Derek, Am I wrong?
chizzler, your idea is a good one, and when combine your idea with the idea of writing in your underpants and the farting thread in the off topic section, you have a winner! i'll bring the tacos, you bring the car this Sunday and we'll review your new xxx-s! And no, I will not pull your finger :)

Haunt,
Actually, I went to a special school when I was 4 for journalism, at 6 I majored in spell check, then when I entered high school I went to a "Magazine tech" school where we put together magazinnes. When I got to college I double majored in paper making and art design. I then got my masters in sarcasm!
Do what I said and you never know!?

So Derek, what you are saying is, you went to a school where Sally Struthers is the spokes person? :) i just signed up with them. I am studying at home dental repair. It will finally give me a legitimate reason for playing with my Dremel...

Thanks. My wife thinks I am an idiot and so I have to share my insightful wisdom with you all. She makes me sit in the corner and mutter to the cat which she's trained to listen to me and be her filter. If the cat doesn't scratch me when I say something, apparently its passed her "imbecile" test and I'm allowed to run it past her. God I miss my dog...he'd have eatten that cat.

Haunted, I know you never said the RCCA guys don't do a good job. Regardless, you can say that if you wanted to...things get improved by getting constructive feedback, not by getting praise. As far as my articles are concerned, I'm always open to hearing constructive criticism. Derek is another case though.. :P
And although I didn't go to school specifically for journalism, I major in English in college. What that basically means is I love reading & writing. And RC of course :D
