I never raced before and am thinking about racing in the stock Statium truck class. I saw the kyosho statium truck at tower hobbies RTR for $130 and think I'm going to get that and put a stock motor in it and race at my local track. What do you guys think about this? I'll probly get bearings to replace the brushes but is kyosho metric gears? and what is the pitch?
Thanks for help :D

I think Kyosho is standerd with 48 pitch gears. Definitly get the bearings. Its a good truck, but most people stick to AE or LOSI for trucks.

The kyosho is a good truck for beginners. i suggest that if you run in the stock class run a p2k or mvp. you should know (if you decide to get either) that the mvp has this little problem where it doesnt turn. just fyi

Yea, he's right. The Kyosho isn't very durable.

Who said kyosho isnt durable? I have a cheaper end kyosho nitro and it NEVER broke on me.

Actually the Ultima is the only real competition the T3 and XXXT have. The Kyosho also has a fair amount of hop up parts. I always felt though that the Ultima Type R (not the sports model) was not really race ready until you fixed some stuff up, like getting the lightened topshaft, and regear it. The gearing is very conservative to say the least.

I'm getting the ultima sports RTR. I wish it were a kit but what can I do. The 130 price tag is very tempting. I can't find many hop ups for this car other than bearings (I ordered) ESC and a p2k. I figure little things like a fiberglass chassis don't matter in offroad because it's mostly skill needed. (one reason I'm switching from onroad) although I'll still street race my friends with my tamiya pan. Does anyone know any hop-ups I should get for the Sports other than the ones I listed and tires?

Take a look at the Duratrax Evader. It is one of the Best RTR kit's on the market in my opinion. You get full bearings, 20T motor, decent ESC, Futaba Radio and essentially a Losi XXT truck for about $170

We used to have a Type R, make sure your LHS stocks parts for it!! Here in Canada, parts for any Kyosho are way more EXPENSIVE than Losi/AE...maybe the prices are closer in the US. We broke a kingpin and it cost $10CAN for ONE pin..ouch...

The Evader is basicly a XXT. I bet most of the hop-ups for the XXT will fit. XXT's are
still competative and parts are everywere.
Think about it. ;)

Pitch is how many of the teeth could fit, if the all fit togetehr in 1 inch.

If you want a sport stadium truck that is fast, durable, and has alot hop-ups available, get the Traxxas Rustler. But if you can spare the extra money, get the Associated RTR T3. If you want a kit, get the AE Sport T3 Kit or the Team Losi Dirt Spec XXXT.

first of all, those sport models have NO SLIPER and you will have to order new diff gears after the first or second race weekend, you have to use hex wheels, it has a msc. this truck is made for begginers that dont plan on racing, or just for the less fortunate people. the traxxas rustlers are the slowest trucks ive seen. in my oppinion you should get the xxxt dirtspec, or t3 rtr, or go find a deal at the track.
someone just sold a team b3 with a explorer, futaba sport radio + reciever, servo and rage for 75 bucks. what a deal.
if i was you i would keep saving and look around while you are rollin in the dough.

I think any of the trucks listed would be good but the advice on which one has part readily available in your area is the one to follow. It's one thing to be different and another to be different with a busted truck while you wait for parts.

I have a LHS that I hate but if I realy needed a part, they sell kyosho and tamiya so this would be a great truck (I shop on the internet whenever possible)

the RTR on;y goes like a measly ***** 15mph stock
If you want a better deal just the type R because it actually has the god stuff in it plus you don't have to pay for a POS stock servo MSC and 540 motor there all crap and your wasting about $40-$50 on crap you'll just replace in about 2 weeks anyway, plus the Kyosho truck are susposed to understeer a lot, and the RTR parts are extra flexible not really that good for perfromce all the time

This truck has a 20 turn motor so it should go atleast 20mph and plus I got bearings for it. I want to bash with it for a year just to mess with it because the season is halfway trough anyways. Maybe I'll get a losi for christmas but I'll first see how this car is. Stock is mostly skill and I have seen people with electric rustlers become undefeated. If I were to go modified I would consider a losi (top end car you were talking about). By the way I asked "What is THE pitch" NOT "what IS pitch"
Thanks for your help all.
