Hey guys,

A while back I posted in the XXX-T forum about what was a good way to make my car go faster, what size pinion should I go with and such. One member recommended going 6 teeth over the motor. For example, if I were to have a 10turn motor I should use a 16tooth pinion. Worked great. My cars reached top speed, I got good life out of my motors, not too much heat on the motor. So I decided to keep using this advice.

Well, I picked up a 27turn motor so I could race stock class. Then without thinking, bought a 33tooth pinion. Well, the pinion is TOO LARGE, it won't fit w/ the stock spur.

My question is now, should I try to up the spur size and go with a smaller pinion or buy a smaller spur and use this 33tooth pinion? Which would be the better way to go? Also, how do I know which spur is the ideal spur for me to use?

Gearing a 27 turn stock at a 33t pinion and racing will not work. The gearing for stock motors is very different than modified motors. I have to go below 20t with my 27-turn in order to go a few laps around the racetrack without overheating. You should stick with the correct gearing for your track, and live with that. Over gearing will lead to poor acceleration, and a hot motor, not to mention last place. For finding the right gearing, stick with the stock gearing for your xxx-t, and go up on the pinion if you have a lot of torque and slow top speeds, or go down if you have poor acceleration and a hot motor. I hope this helps

ok i had a xxxt 2 years ago before i went tc and there was an old timer with every vintage losi to the newest.he taught be alot about the xxxt gearing so here it goes.
27t stockers you want to start at 18-20t pinions.that guy who told you going 6 over might work for him but see he didnt quite finish explaining to you.
for these motors start at this pinion
19 turn=21 pinion ,17t=20p,16t=19p,15t=19p,14t=19p,13t=18p,12t=18p,1 1t=17p.
these are for 5 minute races so dont go and bash with them for 10 minutes without expecting heat problems
