how often to discharge

Ok, I've read all the questions about chargers discharging or not discharging properly. But can someone plese tell me how often you are supposed to discharge?(I use plain old NiCad 6 cell pre-made packs)
And also, please let me know the best procedure for doing so. My dynamite mega charger has a discharge switch that I use every now and then but for no exact time or frequency.

Basically, NiCd's should be stored discharged to about 0.8 - 0.9 volts each cell. So your stick pack should read between 4.8 and 5.4 volts.
