I'm just starting the rc hobby and I decided to go with a rally, because I don't have alot of money to spend. Is that a good choice?

It's up to you, but I would say it's a good choice. My first car was a pan car, and I loved it, but I ended up buying an offroad truck because I wanted to drive in the dirt and jump, but I couldn't with a pan car. You can have the best of both worlds with the rally.

I have to agree. I started with an HPI Mini. It was fun, and somewhat quick... but on my broken road... it was flipped alot, and wasn't fast enough to compete with anyone at the local race track. I picked up an HPI Rally... and LOVE IT! I've raced it both on-road and off, and it does both fairly well.

I know al and hes got maxx envy, i got an E-maxx a few weeks ago, adn hes tryin to do something different so he wont be compared. Sorry if i come across as dumb, but a rally looks like the udly sister of both worlds. It cant jump as well as an off road, and i've heard it does handle as well on road.

before you buy the car do some reasearch on the car and definetely know which one to get because just sayin "rally car" doesnt help us any. there are many rally cars you should research a few and decide which has the best features for you

HPI's rally is really nice and is based on the RS4 chassis. Plus if you want to later on, converting it to touring car would be fairly easy.

outsider,

Do you have a rally? I work in BPT, but live in the valley. I'm trying to get more people interested in rally racing, so that we could start a club and run scale rally racers twice a month.

No, but I want it to be my next car. Where do you race now?

Right now, I race my MiniZs at JP Hobbies in Ansonia. I race my Rally at either Xtreme in New Milford or at RC Madness in Enfield. I also race my TC3 in Madness. I have a few other cars, but I just thrash 'em and don't race those.

Get what you like. I think rally are great first cars. My first what the nitro rally from kyosho (super ten sports) I raced it offroad and onroad. Rally cars on a street have awesome handling. Mine was 2Wd and i would have to say it handled better than my friends nitro rs4 (my tires were wider) :D

I can think of five electric rally cars and three nitro's.
Electrics:
- T/Associated RC10TC3 Rally Conversion
- T/Losi Rally Weapon
- HPI RS4 Rally
- Tamiya TB-01
- Kyosho Alpha Rally EP
Nitros:
- Tamiya TG10-MK.1 Impreza WRC (Great car)
- HPI Super Nitro Rally
- Kyosho Alpha Rally GP

CT rally- in rally racing, can you take a car that was originally a TC and convert it to a rally????(i hear the TL01s are awsome when turned offroad)

Most rally cars are basically modified TCs. HPI's Rally is simply a jacked up version of the RS4 Sport using longer rally shocks, with a skidplate bumper, innerbody, and rally body. Tamiya's TB-01 can be had in the Evolution chassis which is a competetive TC racing chassis. You can pretty much make any TC into a rally by adding longer shocks and rally tires.

So, can you use the TL01 Off-Road?

Would it be possible to turn my HPI RS42 into a rally car? And if so, how would I do it?

most rally kits share many parts from their touring car counterparts. in some cases, just adding rally block tires and removing the internal limiters of shocks to add more ground clearance is enough to convert into a rally car. other cases require replacing the stock parts with longer suspension arms, dogbones, turnbuckles, shocks, springs, etc. or even a wider rally body.

RS4-2 as in Nitro? It could be made into one, but the open belts and no chassis coverage will kill your diffs and belts. It's also heavy for jumping.

athowells, I'm sure you could... remove shock limiters, rally block tires, etc... Check with a local track that you want to run at and see what they require for rally racing.
