It is the spur, check it for any small rocks, or chips, you can pick anything out with an X-Acto knife, but, you could benefit from getting a new spur gear.

Hmmmmmm i dunno he said when he spinns both wheels it doesnt happen. Check ur motor while its not installed into the truck, if u dont hear anything then u know its somewhere in ur drive train.

Hey R/C Homie, you may have a chipped or loose spur/pinion. Or like XXXer said, maybe a rock or debris in the teeth. May wanna check your gear mesh also.

My T3 did that once. and it was that the slipper was set VERY loose. I tightend it and it stoped. It also did it once when my diff was loose. and then again when my wheels were to tight. :p

Check and make sure the spur isn't catching the gear cover, my B3 and T3 have both rubbed and had this happen

It isn't the slipper being too loose, I just loosened it after having it set WAAAY to tight and pulling a (rather impressive) wheelie (I had it tightened for sticky asphalt (104 degree heat index  )). I think it is something rubbing or caught in the driveline  . I'll check it out, and if it's not I'll true the comm :) .

I can't be certain about this, but something else you might try is to apply a little black grease to the dogbone end of your CVD's(where they fit in the slot on the outdrives), sometimes they can make a clicking sound as the stubs slam against the outdrive slots.....

Try what Insane said. I've seen it happen a few times too...the gear cover rubbing th out drive that is.

What started out as a short diagnosis session quickly turned sour  . I found that the problem was MULTIPLE grains of silica sand in the pinion gear, after scraping those out with a razor blade I happily tooled around for awhile. Then the problem came back, TWICE AS LOUD  . I scraped MORE sand out of the pinion and spur, and took off again. :D . But then fate struck again as I THREW a pinion gear off of the motor shaft  . I pulled out a replacement gear and put it on TIGHT, AND THREW ANOTHER ONE  . This is the first time I have EVER thrown a pinion. Tomorrow morning I'm going to go out and look for the pinions. Then go the the LHS and buy 2 pinions, a spur, and a diff rebuild kit. http://www.plauder-smilies.com/sad/azcrying.gif

I have a fairly soft clicking noise coming from the rear end of my T3, it increases in speed with the RPM of my motor and doesn't seem to happen if I turn the wheels by hand. Any idea what this is?

The tale of woe continues. This morning I went out to find the pinions and found them easily in the morning light, put one on the car and ran a pack through it and everything went fine :D . During my break I came home and started to rebuild the diff, everything was going great :D until I had to put those six little balls on the screw. I HAD LOST ONE, JUST ONE, of the stinkin' little balls  so now I have to buy ANOTHER diff rebuild kit, they DO have those little balls in them right? (Not the diff balls the other ones), I just was bebuilding it with diff parts I had. Oh well, I have a computer sitting behind me that needs to be put on the network  guess I better do that so I get paid......(Anyone have a single spare ball I could have  :p ?)

No spare balls here, sorry!

You should be able to get the DIFF THRUST BALLS at your lhs seperately for about $2. You shouldn't have to buy the whole rebuild kit again. When installing the thrust balls, add a small amount of black grease to the thrust washers and then place the balls into the grease. This way they will stay and you won't lose them, effectively eliminating the need for you to ask people for spare balls.

If your pinions are "flying" out of your car that probably means you are not using a gear cover. Without a gear cover you will get sand and other stuff in your gears. Get a RPM gear cover, or use the stock one. The RPM will generally keep a loose pinion from disengaging from the spur, but the set screw shouldn't be loosing anyway.

The first pinion that "left" the car I didn't have a gear cover on, and I found the pinion and I probably didn't have it on tight enough. The second one I had stopped using because the setscrew head stripped and I wasn't sure it would stay on tight enough. I didn't have the gear cover on completely for that run because I was only going to go up and down the driveway to make sure the pinion was tight enough  . That'll teach me to keep the gear cover on......oh yeah, and silica sand WILL get in through the gear cover unless you have it on EXTREMELY TIGHT and SEALED, and I barely had it tight, this is the stuff that you use for sandblasting (the fine stuff not the corse stuff). Not play sand. Thanks for the tip..I'll look into the RPM Gear Cover!

Why do you have silica sand in your drive way? I have done sandblasting before and that stuff is tiny...Whats good for sealing your gear cover, I had that same clicking noise, had my gear mesh too tight...I think...I losened teh pinion and it quit clicking...I have a FTT3 also though makes you think...

I have silica sand in my driveway from sandblasting the rust off the truck I'm going to use to learn to drive :p . I think that a SMALL amount of silicone sealant around the gearcover would be good, and it should ball off in your fingers when you need to open it.
