Which charger is the better choice:
the piranha peak power charger,
or the MRC super brain 819 Peak charger?

They're both about the same price,
any difference in performance features?
can either handle a NiMH pack?

thanks

Both are decent chargers, both will charge nimh batts, but the cells will not like it cause nimh cells like a peak cut-off of less than 0.01v and they cutoff at 0.03v. I have owned both and my best advice for them is use a fan on them for extra cooling, I have never had any problems with the superbrain false peaking, but the pirahna will on accasion.

I think the MRC SuperBrain is better for the extra 5$. I've been able to charge 1 battery right after the other and it never overheated.

nither

get either a dynanamite vision peak or a mega peak, i prefer the mega it has a built in fan plus you can charge at either 1 amp or 4 very good for the money hobbytown has them for $42

Do either of the companies that make those chargers have websites? hobbytown's website doesn't have too much info on them.

is it a peak charger? does it do nimh?

Umm....you cant charge anything over 1700 battery packs on the super brain. Mine blew up twice when I charged 2000's. Also, a few did it at my LHS.

After about 1 month of use, my 819 SuperBrain died on me. With all the advances in batteries over the last few years, it really is worth getting a real good charger. I ended up with the Integy 16x2.5 Pro, and love it.

go with the mega peak i only charge 2000's on it and it barely gets hot.it cant charge 3000's but neither can the other 2.plus the built in fan is an extra bonus.it works best when you stand it upright not flat down, this helps the fan work better and more effeciently.

Do your self a favor, and if you can afford alittle extra get the integy 16x2.5 that justin thyme talks about, i have one and for the money(around $100)its hard to beat. the other chargers you mention are sport chargers, and are fine for that, but don't have the features or durability of a good compition type chargers, get one of these or somthing equivilent and you can forget about chargers.

I am with Mike. Don't waste your money on a sport charger. If you spend anytime racing or plan to you will find that you end up with all top of the line gear and a pit box full of extra chargers, esc's and servos. I spent more money moving up then outright buying the best gear. Save up your money for the better charger and use the one you have now till the mean time. You will be happy you did in the long run.
