Ok, just got an LRP IPC 7.1 !!!! Cannot wait to run it. I do not like the idea of having to solder the big diode/resistor, onto each motor. Anyone got ideas where to mount it? PICS??

I use deans connector to connect ESC to battery and ESC to motor, could I just solder the diode inline on the wires just before the deans on the ESC? Like, maybe solder the diode with the wires onto the deans +/- tabs. Would this work?

the Diode can be put on your conector...
I would put it on the speedcon. side
so every motor is good to go.
the diode is a one way electrical valve that chokes any reverse voltage from the motor...ect.
Novak found a way to put them in there controllers that need them...

thx, what is the exact reason why it is bad to use them for reversing ESC.?

I'm not 100% sure why it's bad, but I know if you do the diode will make a really loud "POP" and everything will get REALLY hot!!! I rebuilt my motor the wrong way(it was spinning backwards) and I popped my diode. I saw somewhere to put it on the connector as close as I could to the motor. So I did. Well somehow the wires got really compressed together, the wire on the diode poked through the silicon outside and my diode popped again :/

Why not on reversing ESC's?.

Well it's like G-RC already said. A diode is a one-way electrical valve. The diode needs to be soldered in a specific direction to + and - leads on the motor. On a reversing ESC the + and - leads to the motor can be reversed in polarity. So the plus lead will be minus and the minus will be plus, thereby reversing the motor spin direction. If you do this with a diode attached to your motor then in reverse mode the diode will allow all the current to flow through the diode. The diode will perform like a short circuit, thereby killing/overheating everything in the current chain (batteries, ESC, wires and the diode itself) :D

I just got the IPC 7.1 and mounted the Schottky diode across my deans connector on the esc side. It works fine that way. I also did not want to solder one to every motor I have.

Exactly!! I don't want every motor to have one either, cool. I will do that then.
