My freinds a machinies & Cuts the comms for me & I was wondering if I polished the comms with jewelers roush would improve motor performance I.E. less resist for the comms to travel over the comm surface?

You might want to wait for Steve's answer. But, it seems to me that anything that would reduce the friction between the brush and comm would increase motor performance. I would just be careful to keep the comm round and without flat surfaces.

That polish will work, for about 30 seconds, maybe then the syrfsce will be worn off and it won't make a difference...

I got the idea from one of the RCCA touring car issue. They used a metal polish too polish a shock shaft & I thought why not a motor comm.So I thought I`d ask the question here! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

IMPACT is right - the quality of the finish on the surface is highly overrated. It won't last long enough to have a measurable effect. I do prefer diamond bits because it's less likely to heat the copper in the comm during cutting and cause a real nasty cut, but I'm not overly hung up on a "perfect" cut or surface.

Well I had it done it a small industrail lathe with a carbid tool(I think)& my 15turn now runs better(due to comm being cut & no polishing was done to it)
