I'm new to the whole Rustler/RC sceen, just wanted to say hello.
I have had my Rustler for three days now and the ESC (XL-5) has already broke on me. It snapped where the screw mounts are. Has anybody else had this problem with there Rustler? If so, how did you fix it.
Thanks,

welcome aboard!!
Most ESC's dont even offer mounting tabs ,such as the XL-5, and are attached using two-sided tape. This does 2 things in my opinion, easy to remove when you want to, and, offers just that bit of "cushion" on impacts , jumps, ect.
Just about everywhere offers 2-sided tape in one form or another, and it will work fine for you. Just make sure both surfaces are clean of any oily or dirt residue before appliing.

Thanks for the reply Z-Man, I'll have to try the two sided tape when I get home. Thought about putting some foam underneath the XL-5....It couldn't hurt at this point in the game.

The z-man is totally spot on with his reply. out of the 50-60 esc's i've owned the only ones I've ever had with mounting tab was a traxxas

you could also use velcro, slightly stronger hold IMO

Well.....I bought some really strong velco...didn't do the trick at all. After a few jumps the car just un-velcro's itself. I bought some epoxy........I let it set for 10 minutes and then tried to lift the whole Rustler just by the ESC. I couldn't get it to come off so I think I'm good now. Thanks to all who replied in this thread.

that was a bad move. now when you want to change ESC's (and believe me, you will) you will have to swap out your entire chassis

No it's not on the chassis itself. The XL-5 came with a black plate that screws into the frame....I would have punched myself right in the fun bags if I would have mounted straight to the chassis bro.

I was going to velcro wasnt a good idea, but you found out. If something broke,on the product, it will happen again. I would try relocating it.Double sided stick tape is always is always used, cuz it cushion the RX. Epoxy onto the radio plate, I guess you want to purchase a plate when the RX goes bad. I would use a hot glue on the thing. at least its easier to remove. and cheaper.

velcro SOMETIMES works...but even with stock racing it may come off during a race which is what i found...personally i think just use some descent double sided foam tape (the very thin stuff doesnt work that well).

Well, for glue, so i can remove it, i put some decent tape on the chassis and ESC. That way i dont mess up and weaken my chassis, but i can easily remove the ESC.

Use a Hot Glue gun if youi want to glue it. You can pry it off or use heat to remove it.

I used some Apoxy, great for holding stuff together. I couldn't believe how well it worked........really amazed.
Thanks for the input guys!

so...you Epoxied your speedo to your chassis? emm....ok.....
well two things, first of all Epoxy works by melting the two surfaces together and when dries..its solid plastic.
that said, you will never be able to remove the speedo from the chassis in one peice...seriously...epoxy is strong stuff!
still whats done is done i guess and since it works enjoy it untill your next esc upgrade...

Yeah, he can probably soak it in alcohol or acetone based nail polish. Wreaking the chassis in the process.

Acetone, and MEK(Methol ethel Keytone) will soak up by plastic, actually melting plastic or composites. When his RX goes bad, he has to purchase the radio plate and RX. Just an estimate! 3 weeks, he'll be purchaseing them both. Just have fun while it lasts.

You guys missed what I said. I did NOT epoxy the ESC to the chassis. The XL-5 from Traxxas comes is on a black plate that scews into the chassis...factory from the warehouse like that. To make it more sturdy...I epoxy'd the XL-5 to the black plate. Yesterday out goofing around and the epoxy didn't hold very well.....Just bought a new ESC yesterday so this one will hold up.

ok i got ya, but generally epoxy is going to damage the speedo mate, not just the chassis...oh and btw, Epoxy doesnt stick to metals too well...
if i was you i would just find some double sided foam tape..or take a completely different approach and cable tie the bastard onto the chassis.... :teacher:

I use Shoe Goo. good solid mount, sticks to most anything and can be peeled off with a little effort. Set up time is longer than the epoxy though.

shoe goo works pretty well, but epoxy is just a bad idea.
