You nkow that if you mail order 1500mah stick packs they cost 15 bucks and 7 shipping, at the hobby shop they are 25+. Go to radio shack and they have a high capacisty 2000mah nicad stick packs for only 20 bucks. Which is great for budget minded backyard bashers. And they have standard tamiya connectors for those of you who dont change your plugs. Im probably gonna buy 3 of these packs once i order my powerpole connectors

I was just checking Radioshack.com and they have the 2000maH 7.2v packs on sale for $14.99. The catalog# is 23-330. The 2200maH 7.2v NiMH is $29.99 catalog#
23-430. I just ordered a couple packs from Tower, but I think they're going back now in favor of Radio Shack.

I bought a 2000 pack from Radio Shack a couple of months ago. I threw it on my Super Brain 809 and it took like 45 minutes to charge. I brought it outside and threw it in my Rustler. Lets just say that thing sucked hairy green basketballs. I had like 2 minutes of run time. I discharged it put it back in the packaging and got my money back. I don't know if I got a defective pack or what but it sucked. Oh and while we're kind of on the subject... I have a wall plug that says the output is 12volt DC... If I was to hook that up to a DC charger would it work? I want to buy a Millenium but I just dont have the money for a DC power supply.

Great deal, but I'm sure they must be un-matched. For backyard bashing, like you said, they should be good. I might also wonder about quality control. I'll have to look into it, though.

The wall adapter will not be enough to run the Millenium, and car battery chargers are not recommended due to the "unclean" power output.

You will need at least 5 amps to run the Millenium properly, or a good 12volt deep cycle battery. Like a boat or R/V battery.

That wall charger might have enough juice to power the display, but not much more.

Idea:

Just run the Millenium off Dad's car battery and use it all night. When his car doesn't start the next day, tell him you have enough packs to run all day with him at the park. Ya think? Bonding at it's best.

If you're somewhat familiar with electronics and schematics, you can buy the parts and build your own power supply. You can get everything you need at Radio Shack, including the info on putting it together. Very cheap and easy to build.

Sean, how much do you think the parts would be? My dad said it would probably run around $50 or $60. Which parts do I need to pick up? I'm not gonna buy the charger unless I can get a fairly cheap power supply. I don't have that much money.

I never used my supply for that much current. I thought it had the power, but I can only pull 1.5Amps. Mine would have cost about 20 bucks if I hadn't scavenged parts off old radios etc. To pull at least 5Amps, it probably wouldn't be cost effective. I found some prebuilts online at reasonable cost. Just go to the power supply section on this page. http://stewart.stlnet.com/Document/index.html
They have 5 amp supplies starting at $28.95.

I the radio shack battery pact is no good , It works like a 2000mah for like 10 runs then the thing gets progressively worse until it seems like it ' s a 800mah and it only lasts for like 2 minutes . It makes my charger very hot and it smells .

you can get some desent 1500 cell packs at your local hobby shop for about 14 . 00 bucks , you can get some 2400 ' s for 25 . 00 bucks . sometimes you can cut a deal with the hobby shop and get several packs for a drop dead price .

I just got one of the Tower packs yesterday . I haven ' t charged it yet , I ' ll probably run it a few times today and tomorrow . I ' ll let you know how it holds up . I think it should be a good pack for banging around the yard though .

I ' ve used the Tower ' s batteries before . They were ok . But I had better luck with the Duratrax Sany packs . Seemed to be more consistan and durable .
I do have to let you know that I did have enough packs to let them cool down between runs .

Some people say the cup is half full.
Some people say the cup is half empty.
I say the cup is twice as big as it needs to be.

The radioshack packs work just fine heck one time while at a race my high $$$ racepack wasn't charged in time forthe heat andi had some 1200mah radioshack packs that i was using for practice so i thru it in i figuard might as well use the heat for more practice since it wasmy first time at this track and i won the heat. It was funny they even announced it over the PA that not only did the locals get beat by someone that its was their first time at the track but that I was running a RadioShack batt. LOL they were gunning for me the rest of the day.
