Im looking into an oval master 21. I plan on setting it up w/ a mamba max motor (5700 kv) and a baracuda 80.
What do you guys think of this set up, how fast should it go and what would the run times be with a 3800 amh 6 cell?

you might be asking a little much out of your ESC with that motor. that KV is usually seen in hydro's. for a mono, i'd step down a little bit. i run an El Lobo2 with a nemesis 8s (@4400kv) for N2 mono and it's a performer. i use a Castle 80 amp esc and IB4200 cells for that boat.

I contacted Randy w/ bby he runs this boat w/ that setup. I just wanted to check run times and speed. i almost positive u can use the setup tho.

i'd say start with a small prop! and you'll definitely want water cooling. you can get a cooling kit for your esc from steve at www.offshoreelectrics.com . that setup just sounds a bit hot for my blood. for runtime, you'll want to be able to run at least 1:45 without overheating. an average N2 mono heat lasts about that long (maybe a little less). some of the fastest n2 mono's are in the 1:30-1:45 range for a heat if i remember right (please correct me if i'm wrong).

I'm with BoatDoc here - the 5700 Kv motor is too much for 6 cells in a mono, particularly for someone with little FE experience. Perhaps Randy can get away with it in his boat because he has decades of FE experience, but I would not recommend it for you. A motor with 4400 Kv will give speeds almost as high, much longer run times, lower temperatures.....there is no downside.
The OvalMaster is a good hull, but like all hulls it has a maximum speed limit - go past that and the boat becomes a handful to keep running upright. For most sport running and even some racing, a 5700 Kv motor will likely cause you problems.

Ok, thanks for your help. I do think I'll go w/ the 4400 kv. I want something that i can run for sport too.
So you like the oval master hull? I've heard from a few ppl that its not the greatest but randy said they have run nats w/ it before and then from some others Ive heard heard that his stuff is top notch.
Thanks again,
I appreciate the help.

The BBY OvalMaster 26" version is an outstanding boat for FE offshore racing. The 21" version did well in its day.

i use a 21" for 19turn spec racing. boats that size are just too darn small for the power of a good brushless setup.

Ok, thanks, what would you recomend for a first time boat that has race potential?
