Hey everyone, I am looking at buying a Tamiya truck for some bashing and mild hill climbing. I am looking for a scale truck in appearance. The trucks I am looking at are the Hummer, F150 baja truck, and the S-10 baja truck (ebay).
The reason why I am thinking of these trucks is because of the scale look. The reason why I want one is to climb some hills and get dirty while still being about to do some pavement pounding. I dont know too much about the tranny's and the diff's in these trucks and I am afraid they are too weak for hill climbing and very light crawling. I already have a Clod based Super Crawler and a TLT-1 that has been modded and stretched. I just want to pick up a low budget 4x4 truck to tinker with.
Can someone give me some direction on these trucks or maybe something else that might be a good comparision.
Thanks,
Glenn

All three of those use the same TA-01/TA-02 chassis layout. I would skip the Hummer, it has a plastic body that is not that great for off-road. I would get the S-10 just because I'm a chevy guy, but the F-150 is the same thing. I have driven the Hummer and the F-150 and I like the ford better and it was a lot of fun to drive.

Does the Touareg have the same chassis as the others mentioned?

What kind of diffs does the front have? The rear is a ball diff right?

How stable are the trucks on rough terrain, and do they do well in low grass?

Can the tranny and diffs handle a 19 turn motor?

Sorry for all of the questions, I just want to make sure I get the right truck.

the 150, s10, and hummer have the TA-02 chassis. It is a 4 wheel independant design. The toe-rag have a much more scale XC chassis. It uses a solid rear axle and an independant front suspension.

TA-01/TA-02--Great for high speed bashing...used for anything really.

The XC chassis--Great for scale climbing....but whos wants to go slow when you can have a car that handles and goes fast :D
