I figured I would just share by "new guy" story. I am not really new to R/C, just a long time out. I am 30 now and when I was a child my dad tought me to fly on non-powered sail planes which I grew out of quick and later moved to glow for a short time. I got married and got out of the hobby for about 12 years and then one day I started having stress issues at work and my doctor told me I needed a hobby. One day I decided to stop into my local hobby shop and I was hooked again. I bought a Hobbico Sky Fly (fly zone) and got with my dad to fly. I sucked big time, over controlling the aircraft and everything that a new flyer does and what was worse is I knew better. I was not like "riding a bike" at all. I spent about 4 hours that day remembering to slow down, relax and let the plane fly itself inwhich it all seem to come back. I ended the day feeling good about things again. On one note, the Sky Fly plane takes a huge beating and flys well with little to no wind. I have since moved on to glow fuel. My uncle learn to fly glow on a Hobbico Hobbistar60 and gave that hand me to me. I have just finish building a strach build .40 powered "stick" that I plane to take out this Sunday if the weather holds. I would recommend the Sky Fly to anyone. At 100 bucks its a steal.

Thanks for sharing your story. Good luck to you and your new (old) hobby. If you ever get tired of cleaning glow fuel off your planes, adjusting the carbs, etc., there are a lot of terrific electrics waiting for you.

You've got it all wrong, Leo L. Guys who only fly electrics should spray them down with castor oil when they're done flying. Windexing off your planes at the end of the day is all part of the fun! :)

Of course you're right! How could I be so foolish. It would also be wise to get some of that oil on the interior of your car, so that the smell stays with you and with everyone who rides in your car.

Thats why I always take my wifes car... I love glow in the big planes, however, I will always have an electric park flyer or two. I have several small fields here to fly park flyers but anything glow needs bigger so I have about a 45 min drive to my field I go to. I am teaching my step son to fly right now. If you teach them when they are young (he is 13) they learn faster and if they stick with it untill they are an adult they will end up teaching you a thing or two!
