Any one make 1970-73 camaro bodies? I have seen HPI's 68, 3rd gen (1982-91) and even 4rth gen firebird stuff, but nothing for 2nd gen.

Thanks in advance.

i havent in a lonnnnng time,... but it would be nice. Bodies have taken a huge turn for th e crapper last few years in my opinion. WE need to see something other than a Escalade or a golf cart!!!!!!!!!!

HPI actually did something right with the rubicon and 73 bronco....they look sharp. More companies need to follow suit.

I'm shocked no one jumped on the 69 Camaro band wagon. Seems like everything Camaro revolves around that one year. They look good, don't get me wrong, but I ike my 73..

Yes, that would be my race car..

No, it's actually a one off 3-link rear suspension. The plan for the car is to do silver state classic with the 3-link and 6 speed combo (First 2 years 120/140/160 mph class, third year 180mph class). We set the 3 link mounts up so we can swap in a ladder bar and drop a TH400 with a transbrake and try to knock down some mid 8's at some point.

The PT91 turbo should flow enough air to make 1100rwhp at full boost through the 348ci solid roller motor. Should weigh about 3,000lbs with me in it.

I really want to find a couple early second gen bodies to play with to figure out what color I want to paint the race car.

come on...all that chassis for mid 8's thats a discrace...when u grow a pair come run some out law heads up series!!! mid-high seven sec STREET cars...with mini-tubs, ans stock based suspion, ur car reminds of of them overly done up super gas cars that should be runnign in the 6's instead of high 8's....

dont get me wrong I like ur car and what not but it's over kill for some mid 8's...

Ryan, lets see ANY of those cars turn! He's talking a car that can RUN Laguna , not just drive around, we're talking GT class, not some 4 point caged late model that drives like a brick, see 200+ mph, AND run 8's.....ANYTHING that can do all 3 well is a real car in my book.

have castrophic failure @ 210mph on a road course, i think i would want that much cage.

( street legal, and making a 200 mile trip with something that fast are 2 totally different things)

Blktrnsam,

I had a response all typed up for you and then deleted it :) no need to get in to a who's is longer than who's over this.

I have respect for guys going fast down the 1/4. If anyone should know that compromising chassis for safety is not the right thing, that should be you. If I was only drag racing, I would agree this chassis should go faster than mid 8’s. But I’m planning on tuning corners at 150+ mph. The 180mph class at SSC specs your car to 220mph.

The rear suspension was originally designed as a 3-link for road racing. I was then thinking due to the location of the LCA’s I could fab up a 30” ladder bar quite easily, put an auto in it, make a few shock/spring changes and try and chase down some 8’s.

Sure it may not be the fastest down the ¼, but show me one of those ¼ mile cars turning corners. I bet if I was 20% slower in the 1/4 their percentage to my lap times would be much much higher.

Plus at some point, I might consider building a different motor and putting a 105mm or something on it. As long as I stay LS1 platform, any block will drop right in and since the car will be on a T6 frame already, no changes there.

in our class we have to drive 30 miles and then pull right into the staging lanes and make 3 back to back pass's with out changing anything other then tire psi...so our car is very street legal...could go further but with a 10 gallon tank dont help much...and at a little over 12.00 a gallon gets pricey and i didnt know u were building it for road racing, u never stated it? and with the post staing u wanna run mid 8's seems like a strip car imo from what i got outta ur post...

Yes. Pegasus Hobbies made one, a 70 Camaro. (part number PGH4001) I have two of them. Very nicely detailed, but quite wide, well over the 200 mm mark!

Horizon seems to have them in stock... however, i bought mine off the 'Bay.

Mike, how much wider? Would you mind measruing the width for me?

Bolink has some cool stuff. Any other places?

I just measured, and it's a full 8.25" across the front wheel wells. It's pretty wide...

Super73

So about 3/4 inch wider.. Do you have one painted yet?

M.R. Ogle

No, not yet... I'll either do a "Jungle Jim" or a Bruce Larson "USA-1" drag car out of these. Google those names and you'll see the historic old Camaros I'm thinking about.

Now why would Mr. Ogle not have one painted?

I'm "Mister Mom".

My wife has a business that pays the bills... I have a small RC dragstercompany, (Grand Motorsports) and I take the kids to school and everything while Holly's at her store.

I love to paint, but just don't get that ininterrupted free time I need to do it much anymore. These Camaros were just too cool to pass up, so I snaged a pair of them just in case I want to get creative. Besides, they're totally cool bodies.

I have one of the Pegasus Camaros. I found it collecting dust at a local hobby shop. I too wanted to make a drag car out of it, but just haven't had the time and not doing the R/C drag thing anymore And it is a bit wider than normal. I may E-bay it soon along with a few Protoform rail bodies and some Bolink Pro-stock camaros and mustangs.

Thanks.. So I bought 3 bodies so I could have a few color schemes right next to each other. Suspension, Motor all that stuff come easy.. Selecting colors = difficult.

If any of you have ideas. please let me know. I know one idea is:

Body burnt orange (filling the side reflectors with sheet metal and painting)
Filling front lower turn signals (not a RS)
Black RS stripes
Black bumpers (RS bumper)
Black ZR-1 wheels with polished lip
Black powder coated trim
Lightly tinted windows

MrCrash
10-18-2006, 02:27 AM
That would look sweet!

A favorite combo of mine is a dark graphite (pearl or metallic) main color (including trim and bumpers), with dark silver or black stripes, and wheels painted to match the stripes, with a polished lip.

RS stand for Rally Sport. ;)

Thank you very much Mr. Obvious :teacher:

The RS option did not include any stripes on the 2nd Gen Camaros. It is most widely known for the split bumpers, but included minor trim chanes as well...

Lidz, I agree the stripes were not an option based on the RS RPO code for second gen Camaro's. I am not sure why I refer to them as RS stipes to tell you the truth. Something that has stuck with me for a loong time and I have never gotten away from it.

For some reason though, (and I could be wrong as wrong can be) I thought there was something prior to second gen Camaro's the bared striping like the Z28 Camaro's but was only available in some for of RS.. Not 100% sure though. I know 1st gen Z28's had striping.

Never really was big in to the whole keep it stock RPO code thing, so I never really paid attention.
