Do you think there should even be RTRs? And which do you prefer? I definetly prefer kits.

It depends on what you want to do with your time. Build or run. If you like to build stuff stick with kits. I personally don't have time and don't even want to build a kit so I buy RTR kits. They are fine and working on them is no problem. Most people say to get a kit so that you know how to fix it when it breaks (and it will). I have successfully fixed all my RTR kits and a friend's (HPI RS4 Nitro RTR) with aboslutely no problems whatsoever. Unless you are a complete mechanical klutz, you should have no problems with RTR vehicles.

i prefer kits also, but alot of kids don't want to get started by building there first car(some do) but it really helps our hobby out and even though there are some cars that you can't get as a kit form, I think it would ben a blast to build a T-maxx, but it won't happen. that is the way alot of companies do it, duratrax does it too. I think that if it wasn't working, they would have changed the way they sell there cars a long time ago. so it must be working so i don't mind.

I love kits as well; that's the "hobby aspect" in my mind. Regardless, there is definately room for both RTRs and kits. Just look at the market; practically every company offers RTRs now w/great success.

I'm an experienced model builder and still can appreciate getting an RTR, but I'm a firm believer that no one can build a kit better than I can, so I'd rather build it http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif LOL

I do prefer kits over RTR's because I enjoy the satisfaction that comes from building a car from instuctions and actualy have it work.

But on the other hand RTR's good in a sense that someone who isn't mechanicly inclined or if they don't have the time to build one from a kit can enjoy the hobby to the same extent as the people who build one from a kit.

I own one kit build RC10T
and I will soon be purchasing a GT RTR
so I have to say that I like then both.

I would have to say that I prefer kits. I think it is a big part of the hobby, but hey if you dont want to build it then buy a RTR. But hey there is nothin like finishing a kit and then watchin it zoom around that track!

RTR is a good Idea for some, but the fact of the matter about these types of kits is people start to believe that nitro rtr are easy to maintain. He!! no they arn`t! So to newbie type they think WOW i can go fast with little of no need to change batteries like in electric type cars and truck! Besides never reading the instruction correctly. Byild your first car yourselve or have a friend that knows what he or she is doing THEN later after learning to build then you have the know how to either build of buy a rtr.

i was origially going to go for a nitro rustler rtr. But decided to get a kit( Tamiya Wild Willy 2). I liked building it and it wasn't that hard. I don't mind rtr's but i have only built one kit so far.

I think that RTR's are a good idea for some people. For instance there is a child in my neighborhood that is confined to a wheelchair. He loves to watch me run my cars, and I ket him run a "toy" RC that I have for that situation. He would not be able to build a kit from scratch, but is able to drive one. With RTR's people like him would be able to enjoy RC's and only have to have help on a limited scale.

There is a certain sense of satisfaction that comes from seeing something you built running on it's own. If kits aren't your thing, though, RTR's are the way to go. I feel that they have brought a lot of people into the hobby, and many of them have probably built kits later on. I feel that there is a place for anything that brings the enjoyment of RC's into somebodies life. Even the so-called "toys" from Tyco and Nikko have a valid spot on the RC wagon. I could never have built a kit or even handled the upkeep of an RTR when I got my first RC. I was 6 and living with my mom(my parents did get back together and are still together 26 yrs later), she would not have been a lot of help with a "real" RC. I had a Tyco, and I loved it.

I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry so long.

What do you mean 4 feet in the air is not what you meant by "off-road"?

I thought this post was funny because RTR cars are so common place now. Heck, I bought one last week! So, I decided to bring it back just for the heck of it.

Personally, I like both. Kits are my choice for electric, and RTR's are my choice for nitro. I've built 2 T3's, and love every second of building them. I have also found that it is easier to find and fix broken parts if you have already been in there and put the truck together.
I bought a T-Maxx RTR, because that's all they offered!! But if I had the choice, I would still go with the RTR. Nitro trucks seem to have more components (IMO) that you can mess up on. If I had to put together that 2 speed tranny, I'd mess it up big time!!!

Definately kit. That way when something breaks, you know how to fixed it. My first kit was a XXX-T already built, and I went to the LHS offroad track to drive it. I jumped a Double section backwards and broke a ballcup thinking I broke the whole back end. LOL! Kind of sucks though when you build the kit wrong. :( My XXX-T ran like a dream, but my XXX KE runs like crap.
