Here's a new model design (with old roots!) in the development stages! The airplane is called the Hot Hots 3D and is a direct descendant of the Mega Popular Hots fun fly airplane designed by past Model Airplane News editor, Dan Santich...
The construction article is coming from Dan's hot-pilot son Steven Santich, who has added electric power to the Hot Hots 3D. This son of a son of a son of a legendary model design has unbelievable power equipped with a Kontronics 500 or 600 brushless motor. With the 500 pulling 830watts / 45amps it turns a 14x7 prop with ease and it weighs only 4 pounds ready to go! With the 600 motor, and the same 14x7 prop you get 1125 watts and 50.3 amps the 600 size setup give you a flying weight of 5 1/2 pounds!
MOre info on this Hot Hots 3D as things develop!
Watch for a construction article in a fututre issue of Model Airplane News !

Photos 1 and 2 of black Hot Hots 3D show with electric power and held by Steven Santich. Photo 3 is a Saito 100 4-stroke powered version with Quad Flaps/ailerons built by Steve's friend Chris Sanders.

I know first-hand how popular the Hots (Plan #4841) was and probably still is... I used to run the blueprints for these about 22 years ago when Dan was the editor of Model Airplane News. That plan number is burned into my memory, either by running it so many times or sniffing too much amonia  . This is a great tribute to what has to be the most popular plan in the history of scratch-built models. Another Dan Santich classic is the #3841 Cobra, which is a Mini Mustang fuselage with an extra set of wings.
