Is it any good? shoule I go far the $250 one with ailerons instead? the one with ailerons is almost twice as much  but is it worth it?
How long of a flight time does it get? Is it good for a beginner?
Thanks

The 3 channel superstar is a great plane but the one with ailerons are worth it. These planes are good for begginers but I would fly it with an instructor for a little.

The EP is a great plane and as a beginer I would go with the aileron version for SURE. The EP's down side is flight time is around only 5 mins but to a beginer 5 min is a long time!

I'm a newbie to planes and I love my superstar w/ ailerons :D I also have a Nexstar select for training at my club but I run this one anywhere. The flight times s*%k due to the s&^t battery but I plan on upgrading to a li-po w/ brushless for better run times. As a newbie I get alot of flight time with it and think it's the best investment I made so far. BTW it takes a beating also :D

I hear good things about the plane but the stock battery seems to get a bad review most of the time, so when you add the second pack, don't get the same one.
If you are looking for other planes to consider, let us know.

what kinds of batteries would make a longer run time? can it just be interchanged with the stock one? like a lithium batt. would that make it run longer?

A battery with higher capacity would make it fly longer. What is the capacity of the pack you have now. And what size are they. I presume they are 2/3A. It is usually on the side of the pack.

i dont have the plane yet but i am looking into it and was just wondering if a battery would easily increase the time in the air.

Of the most commonly used packs
Lithiums have the highest capacity and duration per ounce of weight. They use different chargers than the NiXX packs. You MUST treat these with respect or they can be dangerous. Treat them right and they are fine.
NiMh has become the standard for most RTFs as a best compromise between weight and capacity as well as being more tolerant to abuse by new pilots.
NiCd has the least capacity per ounce. No reason to buy these anymore.
I believe the RTF comes with this 2100 MAh NiCd pack. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBNC4&P=M
According to Tower Hobbies listing, if you are getting the Select/RTF, it does not come with a battery charger. What charger are you going to use?
You can buy upgraded, higher capacity packs here:
http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/main.asp?sid=765047&pgid=superlisting&type=airplane&manufacturer=7&model=293
Make sure your charger can handle NiMh. I don't know its max charge rate but you would want it to be about 1.5-2 times the capacity of the battery pack. You can charge it more slowly, it just takes longer.
Hope that helps.

THose are sub c batteries right? I was thinking about getting this plane as well. DOes it have a decent amount of power? Also as far as batteries, i hava a lot of 6 cell batteries that i use in my trucks. They are sub c. WOuld these work ok in this plane? I mean i realize you wouldn't have the extra power that you would get from 8.4 volts but would the superstart fly ok on just 7.2 volts?

well if i get the plane i have many nicd chargers from many past childhood rc toys. also my dad is an electrician and can help me with the voltage and hertz counts and stuff like that. but litium looks like the best investment before a new motor or anything. and as far as treating them with respect what do you mean trweating the lipo batts with respect? if i buy a few other batts it would def be a couple lipo's. also i have a few experienced hands in elec flight. thanks!

Yes they are sub C. I think it would fly in 6 cell but power would be down. I don't think you like it If anything I would be looking to see if I could get an 8th cell in there, or to understand the amp draw and see if I could do it with A cells or Lipos to get the weight down.
But it appears it flies fine on the two 7 cell packs. If you put in two 3 cell lipo packs it would probably really come alive!

What is left to break? What is so broken you can't fix it or buy the part?
Fuselage is $28
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCZJ7&P=ML
Complete motor system with gearbox - $25
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUB34&P=7
What else do you break in an nose in crash into black-top?
You can fix it! ;)
If you did destroyed the motor, perhaps you go brushless:
200 watt system - $120

or
300 watt system - $142
http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/pdf/combo-19-25-30-40.pdf
You can rebuid it!
You have the parts and the technology.
You can make it better! :D

Basically don't have the time, other planes and projects make me want to give parts to someone who needs them  If I really wanted to I could just buy the ARF for $109.00 and put in my parts ;)

how much would you be asking for all the electronics?
