I just wanted to know how much of a difference a good ESC makes to battery life and runtime? I have a Tekin rebel esc but I'm finding that with the same chassis, motor and batteries it's running much shorter than my friend's car which has an LRP pro in it.

Any tips/suggestions/experiences?

thx

My friend Jeff recently went from a Rebel to a Novak Atom ESC and he couldn't believe the difference. He said he had so much more punch, it was crazy. I don't know about runtime because we're racing 4 or 5 minutes and we never dump. So it sounds like it can make a big difference.

I have a tekin rebel and my run times are fine and it has alot mor punch than my futaba 230 esc did. I am running a 19t speed gem in a pede and I can ride wheelies and the batt last plenty with plenty of speed. I would not sugest anyone to buy a rebel but its fine if you already have one.

When I went to an ESC from an MSC run times inceased by about a minute. Keep in mind that this was back in '86 and the vechicle was a Tamiya Hornet. I would think that 2-3 minute increase, compared to the MSC, would be possible with a high end ESC. These things have gotten so much more efficent then their Mechanical counterparts. And you also get the added benifits that the others above have posted.

Overall, the reversing speed controls are a tiny bit less efficient than forward/brake ESCs, and if you run a stock/modified motor with advanced timing, using reverse for long periods of time will heat everything up and dump quicker.
