What is the main diff between these radios?? I know the M8 and 3D are pretty much the same but the R-1 is like 100 bones more than them. Is the R-1 really that much better. Oh yeah and what is PCM?

Hmmm... I expect the reason the JR is so expensive is becuase of the large dot matrix dsiplay and because of price controlling due to the US having a single US distributor.
The JR is pretty dang loaded though ... but not significantly more than the M8. For the average user the two will be very similar. But, if you are a tinkerer or gadget freak like me, you might like the R1 more.
The Lynx3D radio is a better "value", feature wise. I hate the build quality and cheesy appearance though. I am not sure on reliability, but I do know that I had not one, but TWO JR 756 radios die in the exact same way. I was not about to reward them for that by buying another JR product, so I went with the M8 just recently. I like it. It does everything I want, and then some. "Anti lock brakes" is a TRIPPY feature !
I have no clue what your budget is, but I found the M8 to fit me best in this regard.
I bought the xmitter only. Was like $185. I already had lots of receivers, etc
PCM is an acronym for Pulse Code Modulation. I cannot give you engineering type specifics, but it is less prone to errors (glitching) because correction info is sent along with the data. Also, most PCM receivers have a cool feature: failsafe. If the receiever loses contact with the radio, the receiver will set the throttle and steering at preset positions (like full brake and straight ahead for steering).

ProRacer03,
the term "antilock brakes" is a stretch to say the least. It should be called "breaking assist" or something like that as there is no actuall feedback from the RC car to the radio on the status of the wheel (like would be the case in full size cars). The transmitter merely pulses the brakes. The pulse frequesncy, depth, start percentage, and a few other things are adjustable.
And no, the M8 does not have PCM. I was answering the original posters question on what PCM is ...

Hey thanks again jeep and Sorry! :D  :p
I've been contemplating a new radio for some time now. I tried a Lynx 3D in my hands once and love the feel of the wheel being at the same elevation as my throttle hand. So after much debate, and reading 3 or 4 threads such as this I have decided on the M8. There's nothing like getting feedback from other users. the only negatives I've heard of the Airtronics M8 is that the LCD will go through batteries quickly if you don't tune down the screen, and that the throttle handle is too small in diameter. I plan on using some vetrap around the grip to fix that problem.

ronb-Sanyo makes green AA alkalines, andthey will last much longer than Duracells or Energizers. Great for the M8!!!!
I just talked with a friend today that has a set of AA NMh and swears they last as long as alkalines. Interesting ...

That's ok, the Mars is a wonderful radio(I know I love mine), but it's not for everyone. Remember, different strokes for different folks..... :)

Hairball - Just because you don't have MY M8 doesn't mean you get to drag your little planet radio into the picture!!!!!!!

i have been happy with my 3d. I know the multiplex radios are starting to catch on. haven't actually seen one, though. I think Nairb has one?
If I had to do it again, I think I would try the mars.
