i assembled my first car ever and i was wondering if there are any special techniques used to cut the body? or do i just try the best that i can with a pair of scissors and an exacto knife?
thanks in advance.

My technique is scoring with the Ladies... oops i meant scoring the bodies with an x-acto knife :D like IR said

For those of us wth really steady hands, the best tool no hobbiest should be without, try using a Dremel, with just the right grit on the Sandpaper Drum bit. Since I don't have such a steady hand, I usaully end up with uneven sides, no biggie, no one can really notice, I can't paint either :D
So the only thing going for me is my driving and mechanical ingenuity.

I just use a strong pair of kitchen shears (scissors with strong short cutters) and some emery boards. Regular scissors will work too if they are strong enough. With thick lexan i find Xacto knives are too weak and I just use a good box cutter type knife from home depot. Remeber to take your time! Thats probably the most important advice.

When you use the X-Acto knife...try to cut away from yourself...or at least be careful...those things are sharp.
If you've got a steady hand, take a sharp Xacto knife and score the line you want to cut. You should be able to bend the body at the score and it will sepearate at that line.

I use a small pair of scissors I bought at Wal-Mart. They are the type that have the short, curved cutting blades. You should be able to find them in the craft department for pretty cheap (around $5-$7). These work extremely well and can be used to cut in either direction (left or right).

At first I tried to use regular small scissors too, but soon bought a pair of Lexan scissors at my LHS. They are curved and work great for the wheel wells and cutting any thing circular or with a bend in it. They are about ten bucks. Pick one up, they are a great investment.

Lexan scissors are a great investment! I use to cut my toe nails (hey, they match the curves perfectly)!
