I just got a new stock Orion Chrome motor. I want to do a good break in. Do I just put truck up, so tires spin free, and run the motor at about half throttle for a battery?
OR should I connect a 4cell(2400) strait to the motor and let it drain the battery? Will this make it go too fast?

run it for 500 seconds on 3 volts. Try going here.

how do I break in new motor?
You don't. Just run it. Motor break in is unnecessary, assuming your very first run is not the A main.
The only goal of break-in is to seat the brushes. Normal runng will do this. In just one pack for most motors. I may get flamed or something crazy for this, but motor break in is old school, witchcraft leftovers from when we really did not know as much.
I never break in my motors. I have had lots and lots of motors, and I still do. In fact, short of losing them, taking them apart for entertainemnt, or giving them away, I still have every one I have ever bought over the last 10 years. And that is a ton.
Motor break in was a good idea with closed endbell motors because it took FOREVER for the brushes to seat and the motor to produce max power. Not true with open endbell motors. They seat with one run (maybe two for really high turn motors and undergeared stocks).

i think the question was "how" to break-in motors.... not "is break-in really needed?"... LOL...
we could talk for years on benefits of motor break-in, or if it is really needed at all, or if a normal racer would even notice, or how hard a brush needs to be to be broken-in, or max comm temp during break in, or type of lubricants best for break-in, or or or or.....
but those are other threads entirely...
peace out.... :)

Point taken, Mr. Stern.
However, I thought it relavent as I care for his well being and did not want him wasting his time spending hours watching a motor turn slowly at 3 volts
To counter, the thread also didn't say "how to correct jeepinator on his interpretation of the question". At least I added some content ...

I break in all my motors with the underwater method. Seems to work pretty quickly.

there are several methods...
but generally the easiest is to put some break-in drops on your comm...and run your motor off of a 4 cell pack... i would probably not run for the entire length of the pack... it depends a lot of how hard and what type of brushes you have, but i would probably run it for around 1-2 minutes... then hit the track...
peace out... :)

first set the throttle trim without pinoin gear to where the motor is barely moving then run the motor for 5 to 10 min. or to when the brushes are seated.

LOL! I agree with Jeepinator in all accounts. I feel the same way. I've tried many methods, but the simplest and easiest is to just use the dang thing. With today's faster-wearing brushes, they'll be broken in in no time.

You can look in the article called how to super charge that stocker. it show them breaking it in. all u do is hook a up a 4 cell pack and hold it under water for a few seconds. check the brushes and do it again if necessary. but I still think use is the best way and most enjoyable. and its about fun right. what fun it it to get it and use a method of breakin like the ones decribed. just use the darn thing then you can have fun just take it a little easy and dont punch it too hard

TXP, that's the underwater way :) Gotta break in the motor if you're going to race. One guy (great gas truck driver, knows nothing about electrics) just popped a motor in his new T3 and started to race. Didn't really notice his truck was "slow" because he's a rookie to electric. He raced for about 5 race days. Then on the 6th day, his truck was going so much faster, he hopped the track and was crashing like crazy! It took him a couple more practice packs to get used to it :) Sooo, that's why I always break in my motors :) Now if you're bashing, no need to break it in.
