How many batteries do you guys prepare for each race you go to? Batteris ain't cheap now a days (for more competitive ones) I currently have 2 1500mah Trinity Sanyo cell battteries. They don't give me much run time and peak power. That's why i'm thinking getting 2400mah batteries and get into weekend races. Besides batteries soldering irons, what else do you prepare for a race day? extra Batteries for radio? Also what kinda tool box do you all have? What kinda tool box is best suited for RC stuff? Thanks

Is there such a thing as "cheap" 3000's? How much does Radio Shack sell them for, and how are they charged?
TB, I've been doing this for a while so I have accumulated a lot of stuff, but I usually have 1 or 2 practice packs, and then 4 race packs. We will run 3 heats at times, to I want to be prepared for that. If possible, you'll want to get some decent battery packs, this doesn't mean matched! Unless you're racing with the big boys, I think matched sets are a waste of hard earned money.
I have a Stanley rolling toolbox, but I saw that Kmart has basically the same thing in their Benchtop brand. I paid 100.00 for mine and the Kmart one was 25.00. Unless it's not a problem, I'd pick up the Kmart box and save the money. (for batteries!)
I have spare parts in it, A-arms, hub carriers, etc. Stuff that's likely to break on a bad day. You'll want to bring extra pinions, maybe an extra motor if you have one, soldering iron, solder, extension cord, charger, brushes, paper towels, motor cleaner and anything else you think you might possibly need. The Toolbox is big enough that you can bring more stuff than you'll need. It's better to have too much to carry around than to have to sit it out becasue you forgot something?
I almost forgot the most important thing. Bring your sense of humor!

I have five battery packs: two 1500 mAH stick packs, two 2000 mAH stick packs, and one Orion 2000 mAH matched pack (bought it used). I use the 1500's for practice (I try to get in at least two practice runs... if I need another, I'll use a 2000 pack). I the 2000's for the qualifiers (three qualifiers, so I have to use one pack twice). And of course, I save the matched pack for the main.
I use a big Rubbermaid box to haul my stuff in. I bring everything R/C that I own, even though I usually won't use half of it (but it's good to be prepared, just in case that motor wire falls off and you have to solder it back on).

I went down to the sporting goods store and got a nice tackle box. Lots of little compartments that are perfect for storing parts, motors, pinions,...you name it.
For a race day I would take 2 1500's and a 2000 for practice, a matched 1700, and two Reedy Zapper 2000's. The latter three I acquired after several months of saving money. I agree with the previous post about matched batts. Unless your racing with the big dogs they are not needed. Save your money for something else.
The only other thing I felt was essential to me was my bottle of Simple Green. I raced on an outdoor offroad track. In order to get any traction we had to keep it damp. So after a race you would have plety of dirt caked on your tires. After cleaning it off I would spray some full strength Simple Green on my tires and it would get them good and clean, to the point of feeling sticky.

I goto the track with 6 sets of matched RC-2000's, 2 for practice, 3 for qualifiers, and 1 for the main. I typically charge them before I go, and re-peak before each race.
I keep the batteries and most of the smaller tools, screws, spare parts, pinions, etc. in a couple of plastic containers I got from Wal-Mart meant to hold fishing lures and stuff. I put these in a medium sized, soft duffel bag type of thing with zippered compartments. I also have my radio in there, extension cord, soldering iron, a towel, some tires, and a power strip. I take my charger, power supply, shock oils, some spares, whatever else, and all the larger tools in a smaller cardboard box with a lid. Everyone is different so you just have to figure out what works for you, this is what I have done for several years now and works for me.
