Any suggestions on a inexpensive radio? Whats the difference between the Futaba Sport and Junior? I'm looking to play around and ocassionally race at the local track. At what point do I really need to be concerned about the AM radios in reguards to interference? Can I race at the local track with an AM without having problems or should I just spend the extra for the FM?

I started with a Tower System 3000 AM. You get it from Tower Hobbies. Its made by Futaba and it is a quality inexpensive radio. Comes with standard servo's so if your able you may want to bump up to a metal gear servo such as a hitec 605MG, about 40 bones. It's not necessary, but it one thing that truely will save you money, because the standard servo gears will strip easily. Then you have to either replace the servo or the gears. On a standard it's probably easier to just buy a new standard servo for 15 bucks.
Hope this helps.

I started with an Airtronics Rival Sport (now called the Blazer), and have had no interference at the track. Sure, FM adds security to be less glitch prone, but since your just starting out, and will only race occasionally, get an AM system for $50 and save the rest to pay for the parts you'll break.

Thanks for all your help. I just got the TC3 yesterday for my B-Day. I can't wait to play. What is the difference between the 2 budget Airtronic radios and is it worth it?Thanks again

There is no difference. They are the same exact radio, except the Blazer has an updated case (the Rival Sport is no longer made).

Then why the price difference?

Price difference? Point me to the place where you see a price difference. Most places shouldn't even be carrying the Rival Sport because it's been discontinued.

Airtronics BL2PS 2 Channel AM/1 102Z Servo 39.99
Airtronics BL2P 2 Channel AM/1 102Z Servo 69.99
What is the difference between these two budget radios? These prices are from Tower Hobbies.

The more expensive one has endpoint adjustments (you can limit how far the servo can travel) and steering dual rate (servo travel is different depending on amount of throttle). My radio is equivalent to the cheaper one. I don't think you'll need or use the additional features, so save the extra cash for something else.

The new Tower System 3000 radios are IDENTICAL to the Futaba models (made in same factory with different stickers, but cost LESS money.
Buy the Tower model, you'll love it, and save money to boot.
